Within a few weeks of ownership we had a power steering warning light come on , with the screen warning that there might be increased effort on steering and to drive with caution . The car was returned for recoding of the computer .
A few weeks on and another warning light for the braking system and the car had to be restarted to release the handbrake . The dealership diagnosed a possible faulty sensor but stated that possibly driving over a pothole could cause problems with the sensors on a recurring basis as they are overly sensitive . So it looks like the car is being rejected to avoid the possibility of recurrent returns to the dealer . Only ever returned one other car a Vauxhall Sintra , subsequently dropped by the manufacturer within a few years .
Are other vehicles showing warning lights ?

So far so good.Had mine 2 months and as yet no warning lights!

3000 miles in a loaner and 2000 miles in our own and no issues with either car. I really like the X1

Had X1 for 6 months now and no issues/warning lights - still really enjoying it.... fast enough, agile, comfortable and mountain bike fits inside easily. (Q3 and GLA could not do this..MTB wheel had to come off).

Might be an intermittment rattle from upper rear where the tailgate hinges but can't be sure, so really not a problem !

Couple of windscreen chips - which I have not really experienced on other cars in so short a timeframe, however probably down to UK roads.

Oyster/black xline still gets unsolicited positive comments

Had mine since the launch day on 24th OCT. No issues at all.

BUT... I've had electrical issues with one of my old cars and what you described sounds just like an electrical fault. Random irrelevant warning messages, diagnosed as faulty sensor (throttle body sensor in my case), difficult to reproduce. I had the whole thing replaced nuder warranty, but the hiccups and random warning messages came back straight away. Turned out it was just a tiny cut on one of the wiring looms (no more than 0.5cm long, cutting across multiple wires causing them to short circuit). Three weeks of hell was repaired within 20 minutes. Didn't have a single problem after that. That's the annoying thing with electrical problems. It could as simple as a loose plug or a cut wire. Finding it is the big job. Repairing it is a matter of minutes, if not seconds. Good to hear you've been able to replace the car with a new one.

Agreed the problems with electrical faults is identifying the problem in the first place so if the possibilty is available then rejecting the vehicle ASAP is the way to go . Strangely the offer of a replacement X1 wasnt there , perhaps its the dealership ? but a new Audi Q3 has been sourced so hopefully it will only be a day or two without a car . Pity really because the X1 is innovative in many respects . ( except for the seats )

From your description it sounds like the noise I hear intermittently also from the rear area. I thought it was the center seatbelt but couldn't confirm it

Good point, thanks, I'll experiment by plugging the centre seatbelt in & going over the local speed bumps. It could also be stuff in the boot "resonating" up through a panel. The car is so quiet I guess you've got to hear something now and then !

On a previous Audi, I (and many others) had to resort to sticking felt pads on the sun visors because they noisily vibrated so much !

The ride quality is very good with minimal road noise for a SUV, though I can hear more engine noise in the F48 than in the F20.
I think that is due to the F48's engine being mounted East/West.

Even though they both share the same engine, my X-Drive is a different animal to drive to the F20 both in dynamics and feel.
The gearbox is not as responsive (I have comment on that in other threads) but overall, BMW got it pretty right. For me, a few tweaks here and there in Engine/Gearbox software I think are needed. Hopefully they will be done soon by BMW.

The F48 height makes the body roll more noticed compared to the F20 and there is less grip with the standard seats (mine was a BMW Australia ordered car, so I could not change anything on the order). I would have gone for the Sport seat.

The F48 seat appears to be smaller when compared to the seat in the F20 (Sport seat with extended leg support), however I find the F48 seats reasonably comfortable and far easier to get in and out of the vehicle.

The F48 is a very good all-rounder and looks great.
I am enjoying all its features like the HUD, Adaptive LEDs, Auto tailgate with kick sensor, Panorama sunroof, etc, etc.

Actually, they're different engines. The X1 has the B46 from the MINI, whereas the F20 has N xx series engines. I'm not sure about the differences.
