Is it true BMW uses the audio system to enhance the sound of the engine?

I've seen this mentioned a few times, but I was like.... really? Is that what those little vents are in the headliner?

The sound is asd, active sound design. In the m35i it's not completely different, but it adds a little bit of bass. Although I thought the car sounded fine without it on, I do admit I liked it a little louder. It isn't like some cars where there is a significant change. You can code it on or off, but cannot control it on the idrive.

The sound comes from the regular speakers, and the tiny little things as mentioned are microphones for your Bluetooth.

I turned it off with Bimmercode. Sounds proper now, coming from the rear...

The same outfit that makes Bimmercode is beta testing a companion app called BimmerLink, which has all sorts of gauges and includes certain feature settings which include turning off ASD. If you install the evaluation of Bimmercode it will also offer you a similar download of BimmerLink.

According to the app, individual functions are licensed at $21.99 USD a pop. Seems high, but the app has other functions. Bimmercode is pretty complex and BimmerLink is much simpler, so might be worth it if you just want one or maybe two functions.

I have a thread on here somewhere that lists what I did. I used Cobb's Accessport for years without issues, but I was still very hesitant to mess with Bimmercode. Turned out to be piece of cake and no issues since I set it up months ago. I forget it's there, really. But, starting up in my chosen gear, and other little tweaks, makes it the best and cheapest mod you'll ever do...

Just being able to disable auto start stop by default will make it worthwhile for me.
