I tried three different liquor stores - nada. I'm going to order a bottle or two on line.

If it fits in budget and you can find it locally or shipped before Christmas I recommend a 2010 Brunello, and personally like Valdicava.

https://www.winespectator.com/vintag...s/search/id/39

https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/v...italy/2010/usa

If you ship it, he should hold onto the bottle a week or two before opening. Of course with that wine or any 2010 Brunello, he may want to save it longer term.

If you are looking for something with a lesser investment, there are some Chianti’s in the 2019 Wine Spectator Top 100 list. I haven’t tried any that I can recommend though.

Bar is either in the bathroom with Aveno or out in the garage/man cave. If the latter, I'm wondering what the Aveno is for? Wednesdays?

Nah. After he cleans his K&N filter with his recharge kit he usually uses Lava soap to clean his hands but its a bit harsh so he finishes with Aveno.

I ordered a couple of bottles yesterday afternoon. I stopped by my local store on the way home and asked the manager if he could order some. And what do you know - they had it all along. Nice and smooth, no bite. Caymus is still my favorite but I will be putting this in the rotation. Thanks MKSixer

So we had a bottle of 2016 Don Melchor ($80 at Costco but $95 at Total Wine) and 2015 Realm Cellars The Bard on Christmas Eve. Both were excellent.

Last night my wife and I met my cousin and her husband, who are in from out of town, for dinner. I brought a bottle of 2012 Caymus Special Selection. I never noticed until the foil was removed but the cork was leaking. Fortunately, the wine was fine (great actually). But I’m a little gun shy with Caymus now. Our only other bottle that has ever had a cork problem was a 2013 Caymus Special Selection (which Caymus replaced at no charge). We have some more 2013-2015 that we may accelerate drinking, which is a shame because I wanted to hang onto them longer term. (Wines are stores in a fridge at a consistent 55-56 degrees and 70-80% humidity.)

Yeah, it happens to the best of them. Could be the cork, could have been overfilled, could have gotten warm during transit. My Dad has some top tier burgundies that should be weeping/leaking, but do.

Caymus is one of my fav cabs/reds, if not the fav cab. It’s delicious. Recently had a cult wines tasting at work. Costs $250 per person but with about $7K worth of wine. CEO stopped by and donated 2 bottles worth about $2K each. So 12 bottles total. I gotta say, I liked Opus One and 1 other California wine the most. Haven’t really appreciate Old World wines as much as others. I like them but for the most part like New World more.

Recently got into port wine after visiting Portugal in November. I’m mostly a Pinot Noir guy (the more full bodied ones, not the bland ones) and in recent years have really liked Malbec. Will check out some of the recommendations here. Some of my favorites are below.

Pinot Noir - get my fix from local vineyards Savannah Chanelle. They have some of the best Pinots in this region. Been a member for 10 years. A very affordable but good option is Meiomi Pinot - $16.99 at Total Wine.
Cabs - Caymus, Stag’s Leap, O’brien, Silver Oak, Peju
Cab Franc - Delectus
Merlot/blends - O’brien. Famous for their amazing Merlot but their reds are also very good! Tend to be on the bolder/full bodied side of things with their reds. Have a bottle of their Passion of the Soul red that I’m aging. Should be good to age for 30 years.

I’m waiting to drink a few bottles: Stag’s Leap 40th Anniversary (from the same plot that won the 1976 Judgment of Paris), the O’brien, a Tawny Port from Savannah (was $100 few years ago), and a red I got from Portugal’s Duoro Valley last month.

I do wonder if the more expensive wines are worth their price. At the cult wine tasting earlier tasting this month we had wines from Opus One to Scarecrow to Chateau Margeaux. I thought most were just okay. Then again I don’t drink a lot of expensive wine so no baseline to compare to.

Napa has become very expensive for wines and wine tasting in general. Sonoma, on the other hand, has great stuff for much cheaper. Bought a nice cab from Jacuzzi (Italian style wines) in Sonoma for $40 after member discount. Something comparable in Napa is $120-180. Crazy...

Yeah - sup KL!

Yep, I’ve had a ‘98 Cheval Blanc and ‘02 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Musigny at his house a few years back. Cool he’s chipping in. Fish has a pretty good cellar too. Where was my invite

Dope!! Some expensive stuff. There was a Cheval Blanc at the tasting too.

Hahaha i was literally game time decision. Just came back from Portugal that week so wasn’t gonna go. At 5 PM the day of Jim from renewals and I went up to check it out and there happened to be a cancellation so we joined in. Once in a lifetime experience but wasn’t sure if it’s worth it. Couldn’t tell if it was that good.

Had Opus in two occasions and there are much better wine out there under that price range. Price of Opus drives up by demand in Asia. They spent big marketing money in Asia few years back and it became a must have when serving dinners over there.

Any wine that sells for over $300 is just not worth it.

Had Lafite throughout the years. It is tasty, but not $1k+ tasty. Same deal, but they started way earlier.

But as in any hobby, price is not what it is about. Wine is about passion and experience.
