Front window tint? Yay or nay?
Should I tint out the front windows? I currently have 20% on the front of my car, and I love it. I've been pretty lucky with not getting pulled over for it but it is a hassle to roll windows down. I get paranoid driving if I've had a drink or two.
I want to do 10% back and 20% front on my car. I live in Cali where they are strict on tint and no front plates. Any suggestions, or regrets? |

We all have our own personal tastes and they're subjective. I personally don't like really dark tint and with the added caveat that your state is strict with it, I wouldn't do it. Why ask to be hassled? Just my personal .02 worth.

I have 30% all around and no front plate in SoCal I say do what makes you happy and worry about the consequences later. Then again your luck may vary and having 20% fronts and 10% rears may be significantly more noticeable than what I have and you might get dinged for it. Just make sure you roll down all your windows immediately if you get pulled over (so the cop can see you and may lessen your chance of a ticket).

I tinted my sides and back glass (Johnson InsulatIR 40 ceramic) and
put a "solar film" on my front windshield. (3M Crystalline 70). I didn't do it for cosmetic or security purposes, but rather I live in the sunny south and have a black interior. I went for the expensive nano-ceramic film for it's IR reflectivity. I owned my car for about a month in July prior to getting it filmed and it was an oven inside. After? I can leave it in the sun, 100 dF in the shade "and there ain't no shade", pop open the door, slide in, grab the steering wheel and it feels only moderately warm. Prior, I'd have burnt skin off. I know that in my state, NC, the laws say no tinting, but this is a solar film that reflects 80+% IR, (and also about 30% visible). Also, I know it was ok as the shop I used had just done about 50 cop cars for the city/county fleet. And one more source of ease: I've already had it through the state inspection process twice, and they charge $10 more just for window tinting check. And mine passed.

if you already have 20% front tint, why are you asking if you should get front tint or not?

i have 50% for front windows and 70% ceramic front windshield and limo (5%) rear windows and so far no problems. my friend just got a ticket for 30% all around and 70% windshield (cop didn't know about the windshield). they also ticket him for no front plate. i recently put my front plate on since i drive to UCLA once a week.
so i say if you're going for front windows do no more than 50%. definitely consider 70% windshield too. awesome especially when the sun is straight in your face. cut the heat down drastically. i cannot tell i have tint on the windshield even at night. previously i had 60% on windshield and i was able to tell that. orange county is less strict about front plates than la. |

I love the fact that it makes the car look nicer, and protects against the sun and keeping the cabin cool since I have black leather. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons before I decide to put tint on the 330i. |

Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger
