Shopping for 20" wheels
Anyone have any experience? MRR wheels are telling me I can put 20x8.5 +25 offset. I know ed_rx7 fitted his X1 with 20x9 +40 and it looked flush, the look I am going for. Anyone can chime in here and guide me in the right direction.

personally, i think 20x8.5 +25 is too aggressive, considering what the oem offsets are |

The reason I also dont like the +25 is it's a large change to your the track width and suspension geometry also.
I like those offset choices better but everyone's idea of what looks good is different. What tire size are you planning? Sorry if I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be |

OP, if you're considering changing the offset by 25 mm, be forewarned that's a substantial change. I have +15 mm on the front of my M3 and it had a noticeable affect on steering feel. I would not want more offset. It's hard to describe, but the steering is a bit more "twitchy", and not everyone would be willing to tolerate it. I think another 10 mm would not be tolerable.
Changing offset isn't only about making the wheels flush with the wheel wells. It also changes the scrub radius, which directly affects steering. |

245/35 or 255/35
Im ok with the "twitchy" feel. Wheels will only be on for a short time during nice weather and I dont track the car or drive it aggressively. I am looking for the most flush look. Lower offset means more concavity correct? |

considering oem specs are 19x8 +47 and 20x8 +50, the lowest offset i'd go is +35, which is equivalent to a 15mm spacer on +50. you could probably get away with 20x9 or 9.5 +35 with 255/35/20 however since your car is front wheel drive i'm not sure how much room is behind the wheel/tires during full lock turns. i think +25 would look goofy unless you are slammed with stretched tires which i've never been a fan of anyway, but if you like that look have at it and be sure to post pics after its' installed.

since your AWD is front wheel biased, a reverse staggered setup (front wider than rear) would be better from a performance standpoint to reduce understeer. an Audi RS3 is set up with a reverse stagger due to front bias AWD. somehow, i don't think it's the appearance you had in mind, though.
with a square set up you can rotate tires whichever way you want and not worry about two sets of widths and offsets. personally, i'd go square. if you don't care about handling at all, i suppose you could do a "normal" staggered setup for aesthetics. personally, i am not a fan of FWD car, such as a honda, "posing" with a RWD stagger. ultimately it's your car, so do whatever makes you happy. the edge/lip of the 20x8.5 will be poking out 1.6mm further than the 20x9 +40. the tire shoulder and wall position will depend on what size tires you run. basically, the 20x8.5 +32 combo is poking out hair further than the 20x9 +40 combo.
you can mess around here to see... https://www.willtheyfit.com/ Last edited by alohasurftoad; 02-21-2019 at 03:40 PM.. |

I have been in direct contact with Avant Garde and they assured me best flush fitment with this setup with my suspension. H&R spring drop. We shall see how it looks. I also have been in direct contact with other F48 owners on other social media outlets and they say +32 square set the way I am looking will be perfect.

Proper,
Any updates on your wheel setup? I'm looking at the same size tires 245/35/20, but the wheels I'm looking at are 20x9 ET+35 Compared to your setup with 20x8.5 ET+32 this is what I'm seeing (using your specs as existing and my potential specs as the new setup) https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...h=9&offset2=35 And this is what concerns me "Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 9.4mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 3.4mm more than before." I'm ok with the slight poke given that your fitment will be flush, but concerned about the part in bold. |

Still waiting on the wheels. They should be in this week. I confirmed front fitment with no suspension rub on the strut with other users who are running the same front setup. My final setup I went with was 20x8.5 +32 and rear 20x10 +42. 255/35/20 and 275/30/20. I should have my coilovers, adjustable control arms and wheels on next weekend. Stay tuned...

I have x-drive. Check the aspect ratio of the tires I plan on using. This will allow for the staggered setup. I have owned a number of BMW's now all x-drive with staggered setup, not my first rodeo.

You should be good on clearance. I've been taking dimensions to HRE and the front strut to tire clearance on OEM 225/50-18 on the 18X7.5 +51 wheel is approx. 10mm. Based on your front selection you should still retain decent clearance even with the 255 wide tire.
What I realized you might run into is maxing out your lowering since the spring perch will eventually run into the tire. |

I wish I could, but with all the road hazards and trying to keep the car somewhat practical its just not possible. It will be lower but not slammed. North East roads are horrible. But thanks! I am excited to see it all finally done. Just waiting on the wheels.

That looks good. I would prefer to have the wheels tucked a bit more than that. I want to upsize to 19s but it'll likely be a long while, and while I'm looking at HREs i think ultimately I want a set of the oe 19s.
