Question Front Wheel Bearings

2016 X1 here.
Just replaced my front brakes.
Shop says they heard noise on test drive.
Says left front wheel bearings should be replaced.
For some reason, they can only get them from BMW.
$900.

I don't hear anything.

Get a second opinion?
What should they cost?
How long till they go out?

I would be surprised if you have a bad wheel bearing on a 2016. What do you have like 200K miles on it? It is very possible you have a bad wheel bearing but it would be a total fluke if you did.

Is the car still within the warranty period (3 years in the UK, but don't know about what you have in the USA)? If so, shouldn't the BMW dealer replace them under warranty (but they might wriggle out of a warranty repair if you've not used a dealer for servicing)?

Garage List
2016 BMW X1  [0.00]
@ gr8fl4295 - It is possible the mechanic who test it confuses the pirelli noisy tiers with the bearing ( humming) noise ?!, and you are used to the noise ...

@oakey46 - 4-year/50,000-mile coverage Is BMW's standard factory warranty in US

I didn't think these were covered under warranty?

I had an Audi Q3 and had a front wheel bearing fail which was replaced under warranty, so would imagine the same would apply for a BMW. The Q3 simply had a noise from the front, I took it to the dealer and the tech chap drove it and within 100 yards said it was a front wheel bearing. No problem with them whatsoever.

Took my X1 to the dealer to get a second opinion. Sure enough, the tech said there was a small noise. I still couldn't hear it. But he did. Thankfully it's covered by warranty.

On a side note, they gave me an X2 as a loaner. Nice little suv.
