We have sport seats and find then very comfortable BUT we do have lumber support ,that we consider essential. Would not have bought it without.
Also have a Z3 that has a very good seat , but it's a completely different type of seat to the X1. Best seat I ever had was in a Renualt Safrane, like an arm chair. But that car was just made for sedate cruising. |

I saw today the current phase BMW X1 ie post 2018 on display. I noticed the new standard seats were bigger and squarer than the standard seats on my car. They looked better than the sports seats.
I was wondering how easy would it be to acquire a set of these in matching colour to mine and retro fit them. Anyone any thoughts? |

asked the same here in Italy, ended up BMW will charge something like 3000€, manual seats both driver and passenger, but a friend of mine ask to a leather handcraftsman and he asked 600€ to modify them, maybe could be a cheaper way, actually he did not made this mod so I have no pic to share

I sometimes suffer from sciatica and I'm a young 63 year old. It used to hurt after only 15 mins of driving in our previous car; a 2015 Subaru Impreza Sport Hatch. I also own a 2012 Infiniti G37xS Coupe which is my hobby sports car with a lot of mods. The seats in this car are amazing. The X1 has the option of moving the lumbar around and the seats are just as good if not better. We purchased ours on January 25th 2019. Also are X1 was manufactured in Germany and we live in Montreal, QC, Canada. The X1 for the Canadian market seems to be different the UK models. There is much more insulation and the windshield (windscreen for UK drivers) seem to be thicker glass. There is very little noise in the cabin from either the car itself (engine and suspension) and even less from traffic. We also have the panoramic sun roof. Bravo to BMW for such an amazing vehicle.

Bottom cushion of standard X1 seat
Here is my standard X1 seat. Noticed the bottom cushion is longer than previous year. I'm a 200# guy and it's comfortable enough for me.

That’s an interesting observation but, for me in the UK, I have non-runflat Bridgestone Turanza T0001 XL tyres on 18” rims and the road noise is pretty bad on anything other than the smoothest of road surfaces. What made it more evident was fitting my winter wheel set late last autumn/fall. The Pirelli SottoZero 3 tyres on 17” rims and deeper sidewalls (60 as against the Bridgestone 50 profile) made the ride both more compliant and very much quieter on the road. Perhaps the lower sidewalls and stiffer Extra Load (XL) of the summer tyres transmits more surface noise through to the car, but I shall shop around very carefully when I have to replace the summer set.

When I was test driving BMW X1, Lexus NX200t and Infiniti QX50, I noticed right away that the X1 is quieter than the others ... even with run flats, on the highway and at medium throttle.
You can have conversations at normal volume and music sounds so much better. |

How much quieter is it now? Was the noise so bad before?
I know that some people install sound deadening (e.g., Dynamat) to improve sound quality. Last edited by wcs2229; 04-14-2019 at 11:08 AM.. |

There are reports from people that runflats are noisier because they have thicker/stiffer sidewalls. Some switched to non-runflats, but I would rather not bother with changing tires and gain storage space under the floor in back.

You can still have both non-runflats and the storage space. Just throw in an inflator and a bottle of sealant.

victorngcm: How did you change your seats? I find the Premium Seats are better than the base seats which is what I have. No need to order sports seats.

the basic seat has no power to the air pump of lateral supports so I have to solder a jumper cable from the main power to the air pump pin only use t50 screw driver to take them off and change I use my own memory module anyway. however, I found it is not possible to install the underseat storage box from my basic seat to the sport seat....that's too complicated.... the only thing that annoys me now is the noice from side cover. I think I have to take them off again and do some sound proving..... |
