Who has it. This isn't about feelings, it's the Holy Grail in F1...especially when considered against your team mate. I'll Put it in 3 tiers:

Exceptional: SEN, MSC, HAM, VET, TRU, MON, STE, Clark.

Pretty damn good: LAU, MAS, BOT, PRO, VIL, ROS(N)

Decent: RUS, VER, HUN, ARN

Those are the ones that come most immediately to mind.

I'd love to hear everyone else's opinions.

I believe RIC needs to be either in the top group or second group. He can be blisteringly fast at times.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most pole positions, having qualified first on 98 occasions. Michael Schumacher is second with 68 pole positions.

Let’s not bring facts or stats into a F1 discussion for goodness sake!

I’m hoping our man Daniel can show his is worthy of such lofty thoughts with the Merc PU!

He's not kidding, as soon as a 'who is the quickest' subject comes on it's bombarded by the usual ones who (constantly) provide a stream of 'stats'.
I would say it's VER and RIC combined without providing 'stats'.
If there is any difference it's so minimal going from one to the other.

The court rests its case in favor of Danny Ric; the jury is to stand down; court is adjourned.

Great banter guys. I DO love the people who say stats don't matter. Well...here is another stat that shouldn't matter.

From 07-12, McLaren scored 30 poles:
26 of them with Lewis
2 for ALO
1 for Kova
1 for But
Since 2013, never again.

2 WDCs put away.

About 87% of poles for one manufacturer went to 1 driver over 2 WDC teammates. But it's the car.

Are you sure its not Verstappen?

OK so he was second best to Ricciardo and only manages the odd pole position/fastest lap/race win but still.
Its not like he spins/goes off the track in every wet race, or always hits another car during practice/race and sometimes he remembers to brake before he hits a tyre barrier.. surely that must count for something.

VER's "not the brightest bulb on the tree" moment this year (although there are many to choose from) was crashing the RB race car WHILE DRIVING IT FROM THE PADDOCK TO THE GRID before the race....as a dear friend once said...."ain't no cure for dumb".

^^ ''There are a lot more things to it'' as concerns the off. VER wasn't driving the car recklessly and there was a fault on the car that made him go off.
The suspension/brake/steering was rectified in the quick repairs which then made the car perform better.

Indeed...it was definitely the car that miscalculated the available grip and didn't slow sufficiently for the turn.
Same as the car not slowing down sufficiently to avoid ploughing into the tyre barrier at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Red Bull really need to work harder on the self driving elements of their car rather than expect the driver to be talented enough to do it for them.

And through secret channels communicated directly from Horner and Marko to the 2 VER attorneys, it was revealed that:

VER suffers from IDKIWW Syndrome. While this is a very rare and under-reported syndrome, it is the leading cause of massive shunts while driving very slow in the wet. IDidn'tKnowItWasWet Syndrome is genetically limited to a small number of the Dutch/Belgian population only. While there is no cure, rehabilitation focuses on the basic driving skills of vehicle acceleration and deceleration.

To the one that drives a track prepared road car with stiff suspension and modified engine externals it should be apparent that things can happen 'in a New York minute' or in this case a second to two when something is amiss along the driveline when driving as it should be driven, so it was better for VER to flush it out just before the race with time to spare.
Mind you those that just poodle along in such a road car wouldn't reach that point.
