Looks good!
Reminds me of the days of having my EVC boost controller on there as well

xcelir8bmw what is the max boost that tdi and you are working on? is it +3psi? +4psi? the stock peak boost is 22.8psi, correct? so i'm wondering what you're working with with tdi.
ps if you don't know, i'm sure someone will sell you a crystal ball made conjointly by dinan/tdi/BMS for about a fifteen hundred that you can immediately buy for the community's benefit lol

So I started on the amber covering the display project. I decided to order some amber acrylic to be measured up and install it that way as I wasn't having the vinyl success that I had hoped for as it just looked too cheesy.
I did end up painting the border black to cover up the white OEM frame with logo. Looks better. Hopefully I'll have this done by the end of the week. |

Spent more time with thin colored mock ups. Ordered an acrylic amber TP sheet.
Edit Acrylic is hard to work with no matter what tools I use. Ditched that idea but I did try! |

Blacking out with paint portions of the screen except where digits are shown. Cuts down on brightness at night and focusing on what's directly important. A little painters tape and black paint pen over a few days.

Painting with gloss paint complete. Layered tape marks show. Ugh. But I did solve the problem with the amount of light shown at night. The next step is to find some flat black automotive paint, and mask the number portion only, and paint over the gloss for uniformity.

Found the flat black paint at Autozone. Was curious and started searching (again) for a vent gauge mount - and I finally found one! The reason I went with the KOSO was that was the only option that I could find that would work and look good in the vehicle. With that being said, if someone wanted to start with an easier boost gauge setup, they might start with this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Air-Vent-Ga...-/324156279582 Last edited by xcelir8bmw; 01-01-2021 at 07:30 PM.. |

That's a cute vent mount, but, FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS and TWENTY MORE SHIPPING!? Yeesh.
Regarding the bezel to reduce the light output, good idea, but will paint really do it? I'm thinking maybe Plastidip, which you could maybe apply over the entire case too? |

I just covered the painted lens with amber acrylic cut to fit and glued. Masked off digits and painted with flat black. Hopefully it will be done this weekend. Meh results... Didn't clean it up yet but the paint despite it saying is flat is not. Glad I am going AEM. Last edited by xcelir8bmw; 01-01-2021 at 07:25 PM.. |

Looking at the KOSO mount, it looks like I can actually use that with an AEM 30-0306 X-Series Boost Pressure Gauge which definitely is smaller, shallow depth where it will fit with no issues, as well as more OEM-ish looking, and better sender and quality overall. I might have to slightly modify the bracket, as I already had, but I can definitely make it work. And for $200 bux shipped and minimal effort on my part (about an hour) to swap gauges. And NOT to spend extra money on a vent mount! Just ordered AEM Boost Gauge Kit from Amazon. Next weekend project. Last edited by xcelir8bmw; 01-01-2021 at 07:31 PM.. |

A round gauge will definitely look good, in front of the others.
So, what's the gauge telling you so far? Do you have enough room to hold it in boost for an extended pull? Where does it settle, under load? |

With JB4 on map 2, it spikes all over but no higher than 29.5, and settles around 26.5, about 4psi more as it should. That is what the KOSO is telling me. The AEM will probably be a heck of a lot more accurate but expect similar.
