The JB4 also has an App that allows me to see the various gauges, as well as, changing Maps on the fly. Can also fine tune your boost per RPM. I think both platforms are similar with small differences.

Also being able to see a “gauge” to monitor boost is pretty cool if nothing else

Sweet! I don’t think that was available on my JB+ for my MINI at the time!

Reviving this old thread.

In my search for more power to the X1 to make it closer to at least 300 hp to crank, I've come across BPC Tune. I believe Jay5546 has this Tune in his X1 with impressive gains in both HP/TQ to the wheels. Unfortunately, it's a Bench Flash Tune, thus you have to remove the DME and send it to BPC for flashing. In my ongoing quest for an OBD Flash alternative, I've come across a company from the UK that has the ability to Flash the DME via OBD port. It's a company that specializes in BMW, Mini, and Porsche, to name a few. They have a Tune for the F56 Cooper S/JCW version. The Tune is comparable to BPC, if not better based on their Dyno Plots of the F56 Platform with the B48 2.0L engine that we have. I guess I will be the first X1 to test out their F56 tune for the F48 X1 via OBD Flashing. I will update once the Tune is installed.

When you having it done? Really interested in what figures you end up with... Will you be having a dyno run to confirm final output?

I will be receiving the Tune this coming Monday. Will let you know how it goes. I won't be able to Dyno the X1 before the Tune, but maybe I can do it after the Tune. I have the Dinan Tune at present, so I will see how the Evolve Tune feels compared to the Dinan.

Hi
They do work for diesels and a few are available for x1 b47 Diesel engines. Plug in boxes appear to connect (via adapter sockets and plugs) into common rail pressure sensor (and some also into maf sensor). They leave all existing vehicle hardware and software in place and unaltered. According to marketing info they can be removed for servicing/warranty claims and BMW would not be able to tell (unlike mapping). Several videos on line show, easy plug in, tidy up with a few cable ties and go.
I believe they work by intercepting car electronic signals and modifying them, for example telling the car that the turbo boost is only at 0.5 bar instead of 0.7 bar and therefore getting the car ecu to increase turbo boost. Altering signals from sensor in the common rail and maf (mass air flow sensor) work by increasing the amount of fuel injected (or with some boxes simply increasing the fuel pressure) by changing the air mix. My understanding is that plug in boxes are good for stock factory engines but will not really work for modified/tuned engines. For x1 bmw diesel b47 some vendors claim they increase hp by 35 (so from 190 to 225).
I had a tuning-diesels.co.uk box fitted in my old freelander (which had a bmw 2.0 turbo Diesel engine for 3 years and it worked very well. Different power or torque increases could be selected. Please note, I went to a specialist insurance broker (was only about 15 % more expensive than regular internet mob), not doing so could, in the event of an accident, mean no insurance cover (not cool trying to crawl out of a ditch and unplug the electronics before police arrive!)
Finally, I am not recommending either way. I probably would not fit one whilst my car was still in warranty.

Anybody have experience with a RaceChip box in their F48? I'm specifically looking at the GTS chip.

I found a discount code online and breaking down the cost per HP and torque (vs Dinan and JB) it seems like a good value.

I might take the plunge given that they have a 30 day return policy, but if anyone else has input I'd appreciate it. Below is a screenshot of the quoted figures for the different versions, but sadly I could not find dynos on the website

I'm also interested in this as well. I'm a new X1 owner and looking to make it a bit quicker but the overall aftermarket offerings are pretty limited :-/

Sorry for the delayed report on the ECU Flash for my petrol X1. Been having fun with the flash and work/family duties got in the way. Like Jay56641 mentioned before, the performance of the ECU Flash is more noticeable compared to the DinanSport or the JB4.

There are now 2 vendors that I know of who can provide ECU Flash via OBD. BPC (US) and Evolve (UK and US). When I was looking into this, BPC did not have their OBD Flash capability ready. So I went with Evolve in the UK. Cost was slightly more due to exchange rate. Evolve has the Tune for the B48 JCW Mini, and that was what went into the X1. The Flash was seamless and trouble free. Support with Evolve was excellent, in my experience.

I have not had the chance to Dyno the X1 yet, but since I have experiences using both the DinanSport and JB4 tunes on my X1 prior to the Evolve Tune, I can confidently say that the power/torque delivery from 2k-6k is more noticeable with the Evolve over the other Tunes, and definitely much more noticeable over stock. Max PSI is 22. This is with 92 Octane. 93 octane will produce another 10-15 hp. I believe Evolve was able to get 305 BHP to the JCW B48 engine on 93 octane.

Besides HP/TQ delivery, the drivability of the X1 is more responsive in Normal mode, as well as, in Sport mode, but not too sensitive. It may be in my head, but I feel the autobox shifting feels to be more crisp.

Sounds great, let us know the figures when you eventually get it on the Dyno.

Any experience with the new (2019) double-turbine diesel engines? Old, single turbine, 20d's used to get +30hp/+40nm on stage 1 remap, but I am curious how the new diesels can be tuned.

I have not had the chance to Dyno the Evolve Tune, but I just recently went to their Stage 2 tune with the addition of a Catless DP, Boost Pipe, and Charge pipe. All I can say is Turbo spool is quicker, forceful acceleration noted from 3000-6000 rpm, and overall drive ability is much better than stock, and improved over DINANTRONICSSPORT and JB4, in my experience. Noise level is essentially the same as stock with the Catless DP while cruising and moderate acceleration. I can now hear the wooshing of air flowing from the charge pipes.

I believe Ventjock has a similar set up as mine, except with the addition of a muffler delete. He also shares same sentiments minus the exhaust sound, of course

I did a software tune with a tech that I hired. He also programmed features for my using his software, the OBDII connector cable and laptop. I have a lot of cool features now too. The software with a stage 1 Tune and doesn't require a dyno because it's just a software tune for the turbo and engine. It's a mild HP and TQ increase yet it's significant if you have a BMS Cold Air Intake which I have. My X1 already comes stock with as much or more HP and TQ than most vehicles in it's class such as the Murano, Rogue, RDX, Lexus UX, Infiniti QX50, Mercedes CL300 and Audi Q3 or Q5 and the Mazda CX-5, CX-30. So adding the software upgrade just makes the X1 fly.

I too have the stage 2 tune with Evolve. I have a hiflow catted DP and aluminum charge and boost pipes. Turbo spool is quicker and acceleration is so much better. I always drive in sport mode. I actually deleted the resonator and secondary cat and with the tune you can really hear the exhaust burble. Currently I have the stock file flashed bc I’m getting a lean condition and could not find a leak anywhere so I’m taking it to the dealer. Otherwise I’d recommend the tune to anyone considering it.

Haha I’m sorry! I have my GoPro on my desk. But my car is at the dealer and I’m driving a loaner (‘19 540i so nice!)

If it gets all straightened out then I’ll flash the tune back in and record some clips

I know this is an old post that keeps getting revived, but I didn't see any other engine tuning threads via search.

Does anyone know of a reversible tuning option for an X1 B48 20i? It's a common model available outside of the U.S., I believe the engine is basically a de-tuned 25i/28i.

I'm in Korea and the tuning scene here isn't very good, not on a niche product like the X1 (90% of cars on the street are Korean).

That’s right around the m35i numbers and pressures. I would be worried about longevity considering Bmw decided it needed larger bearings and lower compression. Not to mention your trans is not rated for that torque level.
