Winter setups

Hi all

As we approach our first winter, what are you guys planning to run? I would like to pickup a set of style 566 (e.g., 18" base model wheels) but knockoffs are cheaper.

Tire Rack's X1 imaging isn't up yet, so I can't simulate the wheels on the vehicle. So it's a bit tough because I've never bought SUV wheels before and have no clue what will look good.

Suggestions?

Maybe this?
https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...tire=25TR8WS80

Something beefier like Sparcos?
https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...tire=25TR8WS80

More classic split spoke? Would that look weird on an SUV?
https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...tire=25TR8WS80

These are only $128.. similar to some older E53 X5 5 spoke..
https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Whee...tire=25TR8WS80

Although these are based on a Mini platform, is it still 5x120 72.56 CB?

edit: nm found it, it's different
5x112 66.6mm CB with 47-52mm offsets

Summer in Canada.

I will probably start to think about winter times in Sept or October with a plan to have them on by end of Nov and take them off end of March. But summer just started here so not thinking about winter driving just yet.

that's correct. summer is just here.

I will have to sell my winter tires from my previous Audi Q5 and get a new set for the X1.

Yeah maybe I'm jumping the gun here. But sometime between now and July, Bridgestone offers some good rebates on studless winters.

I reckon its a good time, I'll be ordering my winter wheels and tyres in the next week :-)

Our winters are super mild compared to yours, even up in the Northern wastelands.

For what it's worth, I noticed that all the cars on the Alpine XDrive experience day I attended (all snow/ice driving) were fitted with the Bridgestone Blizzak tyres. Even the X6M and X5M, and a "hot lap" X3 RWD. I was incredibly impressed with the grip just these tyres gave the cars.

As stated at the top of the thread.

5x112 66.6mm CB with 47-52mm offsets

Also those OEM wheel/tire setups are overpriced by about $1200. Go with Tirerack (I'm in Canada too, it's still worth it). CB is of little consequence. They come with centering rings.

Good to hear, just picked up my set of 17" Blizzaks on 385 wheels in black.

Anyone have an opinion on Nokian winter tires, I used them last season on my 19 inch 2016 X1, never really got a feel for them in snow because of the very mild winter in the Cleveland area.

Very good. IMO the WS series Blizzak suit the character of the car better but they are maybe the best. Hakka R's are the ones to get.

I use the Hakka's on my 1M in Toronto winters and even though they're not speed rated they are by far the best on snow & ice.

I've used the Blizzak's in the past (very good) and Dunlop winter sports (laughable at best).

Ignore blue plastic MSW center cap. Very light actually. Supposedly "winter rated" wheel as well which I imagine applies to the finish.

MSW 48 18x8 with 225/50 R18 Blizzak WS80
With centering rings to fit 5x112 66.6mm CB

Stock are 47-52mm offsets

Do you have any pictures of these wheels on the car? I can't find any real world photos of these ones. I'm thinking about to order these wheels. But my car is mediterrean blue and I'm in doubt if black wheels suit blue color.

My other option is M wheels but they're 18" and I'm not sure about 18" as winter setup.
