Has anyone added the spare tire option...or any spare tire?

I really dislike the runflatsvand can’t wait to put on some nice Michelin’s. Our X2 was purchased pre-owned so I didn’t have the option to purchase the optional spare tire. On a previous bmw my wife had, I bought the entire kit from getbmwparts.com (they’re local to me). However, I don’t see them offering such a kit. Has anyone added one?

Yes that's a great thread.. for those of us who have those M-Sport brakes, however, I'm 100% certain the spare tire will not fit over them... so there is no official solution for the m35i. I have been looking at some of the fancy mercedes spare tire options that are designed different. I myself have a can of fix a flat inside the trunk for now.. and since I am still within the greater Boston area and don't plan on going on long trips out of town with the car I'm not too concerned. I suppose if I ever did I could throw in one of my winter rims, but still it's a little dicey not securing it down and I would need a scissor jack (so I don't have to throw my full size jack in the car). I have extended AAA and I am pretty sure all the new BMW's have BMW free towing roadside service for years on top. (I know previous vehicles said 5 years.. I don't see the documentation on my new 2019 car though).

And this thread made me look under the car at the car jack/jack stand mounting points come to find out that since this is my first BMW, that my pinch weld jack stands and adapters didn't work. Doh! Nonetheless, two good flat top jack stands and BMW/MINI Adapters are on their way from Amazon.

I am looking for a Mercedes spare wheel too because of the M-sport brakes. I found one wheel with the tire 155/70R19. However, maybe I didn't take the measurement correctly, but I don't think it will fit in the space under the trunk.

I took the spare wheel from my Audi Q3 (145/80R18) and it didn't go in. I think if I deflate the tire, it will fit (i didn't try too lazy to inflate it after)... which means that I'll need a pump too along with the jack.

Like you, I am not in a rush. I am not going anywhere far. With Montreal weather, I only got flats near the end of the winter or spring with all the potholes.

Along with BMW road assistance, I should get a can in the meantime like you.

Me too, my first BMW. I just found out about the jack pad.
I will order it today from Amazon too.

I got my jack pad from eBay. Less than $10

Ordered a spare wheel and should get it in a few days. BMW says it will fit and a few other sites say yes too so I'm going to gamble. If not, I just burned $80 I'll fit and take pics when I get it. Stay tuned.

I have never seen a place where it would say it could fit the msport brakes on it (Okay to be clear, I've always seen an asterix saying will not fit blue msport brakes if equipped).. The spare tire dimensions are 135/90-17 The key point is the 17 inch wheel. I physically put on my wife's stock 18" X1 wheel on my car and it barely cleared. An extra half inch diameter smaller on each side would pretty much shave those calipers. But.. I can never rule it out until someone tries it! Good luck! I'll be buying one if it does!

The esco stands are excellent, I have 4 for when I need to change manual transmission fluid and bleed the clutch on the 11 M3. As for the pads, they are unnecessary. I rest the cars jack points directly on the esco stands pads. And I don’t need to extend the stands

Just bear in mind that the "free" towing is only to a BMW authorized service facility. Your repair and replacement options will be, um, limited.

jcatral14 I'm definitely waiting to hear the verdict on the wheel! I've had it with those runflats - noisy and now becoming squealy.

With the hard to find and buy 20" run flat tyres over here, and in case we were a long way to get home with a complete tyre failure, i bought a second hand almost new looking 19" space saver from ebay. It fits my UK spec car (2018 18d m sport) and clears the calipers and arches. I had to buy a jack separately and it doesnt move around in the wheel well as the it is a tight fit anyway. HTHs.

We don't need to go all the way to steelies at 19" or even 20", for sure. Most steel wheels have much more inside clearance than alloys, owing to the thinner material and shape of the hub stamping. I'm very hopeful that the 17's mentioned in threads here will fit.

I am curious too to see if the BMW spare wheel will fit, but based on a post in the other thread, a BMW dealer in UK said it doesn't.

I believe an 18" wheel fit the M35 sport brakes because many sites offered this size as alternative when I was looking for my winter wheels. My fear is more about the clearance on the side. The width of the standard wheel is 8". A spare wheel is usually around 4".

I did some calculations on paper only (I might be wrong or missed something), the wheel needs like 20mm less than the current offset or the wheel design gives more room.

I bought yesterday on Ebay a Mercedes spare wheel 19x5.5 offset 13 for $175. I'll let you know the results.

I have physically put my other cars' 18" stock x1 wheel on and it fits.. Tight but it fits. At least one other person has used 18" winter wheels.

Thanks. I saw the posts . I was considering the 18" winter wheels then I saw on Kijiji someone local selling his X1 OEM 19" wheels never used.

Too bad that the space under the cargo area is not deep enough. I would do like you said to throw a summer wheel in there.

For now, I still have runflat for the summer tires. For the winter, I went with non runflat, Nokian tires.

I'll try to fit the spare rim tomorrow and let you all know. I also got a BMW jack from an E46 on eBay. I tried it yesterday and verified it will work on the X2

Ok, I bought a spare tire off eBay which is a 135/90 17 which comes out close to my 255/50 18 tires (On the car) and the spare wouldn’t fit in the trunk space where the spare goes. ?? It’s to wide. I placed the spare alongside the cars regular tire and they seemed to be the same height. What gives?

Can you link the jack auction, and what size spare did you get?
