How reliable has your X1 been?

Looking to buy a used X1. I really like this vehicle.

Just wondering how reliable your X1 has been for you. (also if you could mention what year yours is...)

I don't see a lot of complaints in this forum about reliability issues.

We had our 2017 for nearly 2 years (20 months) and no issues all. No warranty work or service bulletins.

I have a 2017 with 17k miles. Nearly perfect so far. Been meaning to take it in to have some mild low speed jerkiness looked at, but my understanding is that it’s a quick fix under warranty (there’s a long thread about it).

I’d recommend.

Oct 16 25D Msport with 35K on it now. Bar servicing & EGR replacement & a turbo hose pipe, both under warranty, it's been trouble free.

Averaged 38 mpg over the distance but I don't hang about & lot of roundabouts where I live with national speed limits between them.

Often the case that those with a problem complain and those that are happy just get on with life. I have 12/2017 xdrive 2.0d (so diesel not petrol). I have had no problem and am getting 41mpg (so for US gallons that is 32.8mpg).

I would say they are good cars but some of the driver assist features (not std vehicle FCW) but optional pedestrian collision and ACC active Cruise Control rather than standard CC (found in most X1’s ) can be flaky. General safety is good. My main niggles are the paint is thin and the basic HiFi (not optional HK system) speakers/system are the poorest I have had the displeasure to listen to. In the U.K. the nav mapping is about 5 years out of date for some areas. Otherwise good fun to drive.

By basic HiFi, do you mean most basic, or the mid-level "Loudspeaker system - BMW Advanced" speakers? Because there are two optional sound systems over the basic one.

remember this is a global forum, different countries have different options, i.e. in the us the options are only "Hi-Fi" and the h/k, I odn't know about the UK options.

Hello
In U.K. ,
there is basic,
there is bmw advanced which may have a separate amp with extra speaker (mid dash) but are same poor quality paper cone speakers which sound flat and poor.
and there is HK. Which is good.
I improved my car by fitting HK tweeters in the front and swapping front mid range for HK also. Will probably change two base speakers next.

My April 2018 XDrive20i has been 100% reliable from day 1.

Not one error message, fault, interior rattle or warranty item to speak of! My previous 3 Series had been back to BMW three times in its first year.

My 2016 2.5D MSport has had the iDrive head unit replaced due to complete failure. Drivers seat sub base (metallic bits) replaced to cure slide side movements. Engine/ transmission rear mounting replaced to cure clunk noise. This didn't cure problem so front wishbones replaced which has now cured the intermittent noise.
After the front wishbones had been replaced there was a very slight mis alignment of the steering wheel.
Return visit to dealership for a full alignment check has cured this and also found the rear wheel alignment, camber, castor angles etc to be outside limits. This has all been corrected.
Thankfully all work covered under warranty. On dealers invitation my car is going back next week for a full end of manufacturers warranty check. Having its first MOT same day so if any issues warranty should cover?
On paper not the most reliable car but I am a fussy sod and possibly many owners would have lived with issues such as slight clunk noise and seat movement but for me it's like the annoying rattle or creak in the trim.

Overall reliable, with a couple of caveats:

The first, a broken engine mount (fixed under warranty — no significant off-road or rough road driving). Others have had this, too
The second, a recall for tie rods, IIRC

Good car and I certainly buy again for our use case

So I paid 350 euros for an option, and I still get bad sound? Damn.

Tbh, I didn't notice anything untoward, it was picked up when in for new pads & discs. (Front Pads 17K, both 36K, told you roundabouts not good lol).

Was just a small split by all accounts so not failed.

We have a 2018 XDrive MSport with 11K miles. So far so good. Been on a few long trips already. No complaints. Might end up upgrading to something else though as it gets tight with three adults and one infant.

Here are some of the things I find are big plus's-

Great in snow (with winter tires)
Decent ground clearance (although an S60 Cross Country has better ground clearance by over an inch)
Nice comfortable interior and roomy for the size of the vehicle
Great LED headlamps
Great visibility
Looks good (subjective I know)

Sorry. If you are happy with sound then that is all that matters. I am sure most X1 owners are happy with the system and equally most audiophiles will probably be critical.

Same car 56K kms, that turbo pipe just happened to me as well.

Engine oil dripping onto the steering rack, lots of it.

I still love my X1... I just hate the run flats.. I will be ditching them soon, but keeping my car. It has been great... Aside from the runflats, I have no complaints
