Pedestrian bonnet gas rams
So, car in for minor sevice as planned with an I4 M50 as free loan car. Wow the acceleration is astonishing. Anyway all good inc the price but something new to me was a call to say the bonnet rams for the pedestrian protection system were out of date, the car is a March 2018 X1 20D Xline Xdrive. £188 later both replaced and good to go , but I never thought these would be something that would need replacing even if I understand the logic,

Yes, exactly that, they’re designed to stop a pedestrian from being scooped under the front of the car in an impact, iirc the rams fire a charge which pushes up the rear of the bonnet
