X1 F48 Front Shock Replacment

Hi X1 Crew,
Looking for some advice.

I need to replace front shocks on my X1 (2016 sDrive20d). No major issues, 7years old, just maintenance.

I have been to 3 shock specialists.
I have been to 2 non-BMW Service centers.
I have been to a diff/CV/Drive train service center.

All of which cannot, or will not, touch the shocks on the X1... Anyone know what is so special about the shocks? What am I missing. Some of these places cannot even get stock of the shocks for the car?

I went to BMW direct, and they want to charge an inspection fee. Irrelevant of my REQUEST to change the shocks..

What am I missing? Any info on this would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Jimbo.

Nothing special about F48 shocks. Just a regular BMW configuration (and pretty much every other car).

I changed mine in my garage without fancy tools, so it wasn't difficult, but it took many hours.

It's normal that BMW wants to charge you a "diagnose fee." However, they should discount it if you later accept the labor.

If you don't want to do it yourself, BMW is your best option, considering what you said about other shops, although it will be the most expensive.

Maybe he has the adaptive suspension and nobody wants to bother with it? I specifically chose regular shocks on my car just so it would keep it simple, plus I didn't notice a huge difference in ride with the one equipped with it.

Otherwise.. yes there's nothing special about these shock setups.

Really nothing special. When I put on the bilstein b8's, I went to the group of guys I go to when I just want parts put on, no diagnosis, and they did it for $100 a corner.

Hi mate,

Do you have any problems or noise while using the B8?

I put in some Koni Sport; unfortunately, they aren't a good match for my Eibach lowering springs. Since they are pretty long (for regular springs), I hear some noise from the shocks' heads every time I turn. I changed the shock top bases, thinking they might be old or broken, but I keep hearing the noise.

Also, my steering is heavy now, even after wheel alignment in BMW.

No issues. I've had them on for several years now and to me, its how the car should have come from the factory.
