Removing exhaust tip
I'm trying to change out the chrome tips and have been reading and people are saying that to tap the original tip from behind gently and it should slowly come off.
I'm using a rubber mallet and tried both sides for like over 30 minutes now and still couldn't get it off.. Any tips? |

Put a wooden block behind the edge of the tip. This will allow you to transfer a little more force and also allow the use of a heavier steel hammer without damaging the original tip...

What I do. Use wooden block to help tap replacement ones on as well, just wrap in a cloth to protect the tips & place square across the whole face. |

The right does have a butterfly flap, as that will open when Full Throttle. Most of the time the flow will be directed to the left pipe.

Or you can fix it so the valve is always open. I did, and I like the extra noise on startup, but haven't noticed any real difference when underway. Too bad they didn't make this thing sound more like the JCW Countryman with the same engine.

Speak for yourself - I'll always want a little character from the exhaust on my cars, and I like the burble and popping on the overrun. The X1 with both pipes open sounds good on a cold start but it's too quiet to suit me while driving. A driver-switchable valve exhaust similar to the JCW Pro kit would be just the ticket.

That’s all in the tune, you can get that without changing the exhaust. Problem is the car is so insulated you won’t hear it much. My m35i makes cool noises but it’s rare to hear them. I’m half tempted to make the actuated side a straight pipe and keep a muffler on the other. For some reason on x2 the actuator is on the drivers side unlike x1.

I can attest to the above. I recently posted a video of my exhaust notes after a tune was flashed in. It’s hard to hear anything other than the intake from inside the cabin. Even with all the windows down. Any ideas on how to remove some of the sound deadening on the X1? I don’t want to make the exhaust annoyingly loud, but I’d like to hear the notes.
