Message to admin.

In order to have more visibility for our action, please make the thread "sticky" and rename it to something like "Letter for BMW: service recall for transmission error"

Thank you in advance.

Same issue with my 2016 X1 MSport:

WBAHT120005D99931, xDrive25i MSport, 2016, Australia, <30000km, robert.com at gmail.com

Just been told that the shift parts have been ordered and the car will have to be left in the service center overnight.

The part number is 25168483098 per the invoice that I just picked up and got back to work. This is the part from my searches: https://www.bmwautoparts.net/en/cata...ift-steptronic

Searching further, it looks like the replacement is a new part that has superseded the prev one:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?q=25168483098

So touch wood and as the saying goes ... only time will tell.

Good Evening people !
I am a mechanic in a garage who mainly sells BMW and MINI , This monday i had an F48 with the same fault code, and the same problem with the gearshift everything works fine , except for the message: prevent vehicle from rolling , contact local service partner .
finding out the car had extended warranty, i dropped it off at the local BMW dealer , and they are replacing the shifter next week, under warranty.

Great to hear Peter and would like to find out what the response is from BMW if you are out of warranty!

Dear Peter, have you replaced the shifter already? Do you have an exact number(s) of part(s) being replaced? Could you just confirm that it is the part number 25168483098? Or maybe the matter is only in shifter itself - part number 61319391197

User bulaviti mentioned the replaced part as 25168483098.
It is the whole gearshift ensemble.
Does it have to be changed all of it?

I've got a direct message from the person from Russia who faced similar problem. As per his inforation he visited his BMW local dealer and got information to replace only shifter, i.e. 61319391197
If it is so, the cost is around 160 - 200 euros.
I have asked him twice to give his VIN details for our letter but so far no reply...

Therefore wanted one more time to re-confirm from the persons who already replaced the faulty part and solved the problem.

I could also visit my BMW dealer in Ukraine and inform here about their reply but honestly wanted to finalize first our idea with claim letter. As far as I understood we have only 3 persons right now - myself, StefanJ and bulaviti. What about you jkont lrd300 AUS_Tin_Pusher scadagawd Mukwambo billnchristy flyingkenneth dianebrat Beagler ?

You're assuming others that have participated in the thread have direct experience, that's not correct, some of us just offer advice if we can help.

Shipa, I propose to wait till the end of August, because in Europe there is the summer vacation "month".
Maybe other users with this problem could be still in vacation and don't have time to read the forum.
Does it matters one more week of waiting?

So, PeterHol, you've had the same problem as we have.
Would you be so kind to leave the car details for the letter ?
Your case would give more advantage to the letter, because an authorised BMW dealer replaced the defective part. This is like a proof for our claim.
