People who park right next to you

I like parking next to nice cars for 3 reasons

1. Park next to someone nice who won't ding me.
2. Park next to a nice car I can look back at while I walk away.
3. Park next to a nice car all the way in the back so they can take a picture and post it on the internet about how I went out of my way to park all the way in the back when there's a hundred open spots.

I tend to park away, and close to nice cars.

Implied is a mutual respect of each other's bodywork, and a hope that the other 'nice car' isn't a douche who parked in the boonies because he was too drunk to try to park near other cars.

Does anyone know if BMWs have magnets attached to them? I ask because this just happened today, literally a couple days after I posted the last picture.

This person actually parked over the yellow line right next to my car when the rest of the parking lot was empty. While I understand why someone might park next to me, I seriously don't understand why they had to park over the yellow line.

I agree that guy is just trying to be funny but if he didn't hit that other guy's car there's no harm done.

Still it's not cool to do because it makes a person nervous when they come out to their car and see this other guy so close.

I've discovered, even in my beater 02 Sonoma, that other people aren't really paying attention strictly to the lines, as painted. I park WAY over, even cover the white triange that is used to indicate no parking in the corner. People STILL park the same distance as usual from me, crossing over the painted line. I've decided it's just because I'm so lovable

Sometimes I wonder if people can't see lines on the ground and need to use other objects to gauge what to do. It would explain a lot even in every day driving.

Not all of them, though, as I'm seeing the park-diagonally-in-the-space routine more and more often now. Most recently I saw an M550i and a 3500 pickup parked that way in end spaces in the same golf course parking lot. If someone had parked next to the line in the spaces next to them, each would have had to back-out over a curb. That would have been no problem for the truck, but not for the M550i. On second thought, these drivers were clueless, too.

Granted that there are soem clear cases of lemming-like overcloseness here; but I think some of you are way too rigid and rule-governed. The goal is no door dings, not a sense of isolated superiority. Think tactically about how to get a spot that you are unlikely to be doored EVEN IF the lot fills up. So that open spot next to the 4 series (next to the other pillar) is near perfect to me. Car guy on one side who left enoguht room he probably can't hit my car if I do the same, and pillar on the other side. A nice car already in a spot is better than an open spot where you could get stuck with one of those idiots in the other pics, who chooses to park over the line on you. Ditto for the guy's wifey park job - is he going to door her car? No. So leave more room on the other side for the random asshat to be sloppy.
