I am actually looking at the X1 as a current replacement to S/O's Lexus RX350 whose lease is ending in a couple months. Not everybody needs an X3 etc. We don't since we have no kids therefore the X1 does make valid sense for some and while old still offers better utility than some modern competitors namely Lexus NX/UX....
I understand there are worse examples than the X1. To me it just doesn't feel anything like a BMW (balance/composure/refinement/seats/haptics/...) and I can't justify the high price they charge for it. When it would have been 10-15% less expensive, i would dig it. BTW, an X2 M35i with a bit of kit is +60k€ over here! For 65k€ you have a M340i. Don't have to tell you that is another vehicle all together?

BTW, just looked at the 128ti, which is more than the 330i... I mean, are those guys for real at Munich!?

I hear what you're saying but the X1 is not for everyone hence S/O. Some people just want a safe, reliable transportation that gets great MPG and the X1 checks those boxes. You'd never see me shopping that for myself. Pricing in the USA isn't too bad and remember one can always negotiate a lower price. Most of us don't pay MSRP, well the informed customer that is.

When that's what you want, there are better makes than BMW to deliver just that.

Isn’t it crazy that you have to explain this simple logic to someone?

I don’t think so. BMW SAVs are the best. Nothing comes close

Better? Maybe but the X1 does a good job at differentiating itself from the competition in that it's a slightly more refined MINI. It's not exactly MINI's go-kart feel but it's a bit more relaxed while still providing fun, as fun can be in this type of car. Can't say the same for the competition. They might have better fuel efficiency, might be better priced and have more options available standard, but the X1 is a great package for those looking and willing to pay the premium.

When I bought my 2018 X1, I checked out other comparable vehicles at the same price point and the BMW was the BEST for ME.

It's my hard-earned money, so I don't really care about what others want.

I remember this KoenG individuum from the X3M forum. He would keep coming over for no obvious reason and spew random nonsense. Probably a Dacia owner.

I think you will be quite happy with this car, i owned the first gen x1 and i have said it so many times this car is very underrated of what it can possibly do if it gets some proper M treatment not just M package.

Because quite good in a lot of terms the interior isn't or wasn't then the most exiting but it still was BMW interior with a certain premium feel and if i like one SUV in terms of looks then it was the X1 it just feels so compact and somehow packs a punch and that was with the x20d engine.

Currently driving a 2020 X5 40i , came from a 2017 x1, and honestly at the time, it really was the best small luxury compact suv in it's class. The legroom, the head room and the boot space was best in class.

I bought my X1 in 2019 after months of testing the market, and I found it to be the best in-class. I don't think much has changed since than. Plus, the distribution is actually 50/50, the interior quality is not worse than a 3-series and I don't really know what you mean by "compromised ergonomics".

not in Germany; an M-Sport 330i is 7000 EUR more expensive than a 128ti - as the latter is pretty much an M-Performance model without the badging, I think comparing it to the M-Sport trim is only fair (but the base 330i is still 2000 EUR more expensive).

I guess this is due to CO2 regulations in Belgium? The 128ti seems too be considerably worse than the 330i in this regard (148 - 139 g/km vs. 138 - 129 g/km for the 330i)

Also, this thread was about the upcoming new generation, which will make a huge leap in terms of driver assistance and infotainment features while hopefully still retaining some of the fun-to-drive-compared-to-the-competition.

Hopefully BMW comes to their senses and gives blind spot detection to the X1/2 this generation. Lost a lot of sales for that reason alone

Maybe the market where you are is different than in America, but here it makes 0 sense to purchase an entry-mid level X3 over an X1. You can get a 2021 X1 M Sport for $32k where the X3 would cost you 43k - 47k for essentially the same vehicle, size, engine, etc.

The only downfall of the X1 is the FWD, I don't find the interior that off putting as it's nicer than most 3 Series.

Also not everyone wants the size of a X5, X7.
