No they can't code it to a blank key, it's just a receiver/transmitter relay device. If they weren't able to relay your key to the car then they were unsuccessful. But ensure your key is kept at a distance from your front door.

If you're super concerned about the vehicle being stolen, and are an Apple user, maybe grab one of those Apple AirTags which lasts for a year and hide it somewhere in the vehicle.

How to tell if an attempt on cloning your key has been made

You will be able to tell if an attempt on cloning your key has been made by upon entry of your bmw vehicle, a warning chime sounds and all your windows roll down at the same time.

This happened to my dads 2021 bmw 5 series when someone had cloned his key.

Always remember to deadbolt your car so theifs are unable to unlock the car without using the masterkey!
