You will have to let me know how the Smoke Wagon UCUF is. I have only had the Small Batch, which I really enjoyed. Don't see much of that stuff around here.
Good point on the distillery and they do get a lot of ways to sell more. Large part of the reason MGP went the contract distilling route was the massive production capacity, now they have even more capacity so I think this is a barrier. Can't see them able to get rid of contract distilling until they find other ways of selling what they have and get out of existing agreements. Don't think you can put MGP products into existing Luxco branded bottles as MGP is normally high rye recipes. Time will tell.

Of everything you posted I think the only thing I was super disappointed about was the Red Breast CS... it always gets such glowing reviews and I just didn't appreciate it at all

Great feedback. The Michter's American is one of my favs too, especially for the price. Can be had here in Colorado for $42. Agree with you also on the Stranahans Sherry.

Although I really enjoy the Redbreasts CS, mine is batch B2/19, I've ready there's some good differences between batches, but I've only had 2 bottles of the same batch.

Have you tried Abelour 16yr? it's one of my ATF I'm just out of it now. Based on a couple of your reads it may be something you like. For a Scotch it's not peaty/smokey at all.

Exactly

My wife is from Scotland. She's full on lagavullin and I'm complete opposite but I do like to find a good scotch now and then that I enjoy.

Let me know what you think of the Smoke Wagon. I haven't opened mine yet and was a gift from a good friend.

Can you find smokehead sherry bomb where you live? You both might enjoy it.

The Smokewagon Uncut unfiltered is fantastic.

Really really good stuff.

Had a pour tonight.

Low end is an opinion and come up with any price levels you want but you can buy lots of bottles for 1/3 to 1/2 the price of this one. Many think Eight and Sand is a good value in it's price range. I've had it when MGP gave our club a presentation but never purchased it. Doesn't change the fact that in the world of bourbon and rye's MGP is a respected producer and many of their great bottles are very good.

I think you are correct in the long term, they would rather produce and sell their own product, mainly because they are losing out on a lot of the profit, then the new companies that buy from them are often doing it until they produce their own product, then move on. They purchased the Remus brand in 2016 so it may take a lot of time until they are bottling everything they produce.

Had King's Family Distillery Ryeconic last night. MGP product 110 proof, aged at least 4 years. Given to me as a gift for watching a friends dog. Look up retail it is about $75 and while good I don't think it is worth the money.

Also received a Smoke Wagon through Fedex, also around $75 (plus shipping), also MGP, no age statement, 115 proof. Look forward to trying it.

Label pictures also attached, they are required to say where it is distilled, if Indiana but bottled somewhere else it is highly likely MGP's product. They can also buy aged MGP product and further age it themselves which allows them to change the label.

Interesting that from low end you assume I mean NOT good. Low end is inexpensive...thats it. Not once did I say it was trash, I just said it was low end.

I've had a bottle of unfinished Lagavullin for years. Just can't do it. Bottles of Balvenie seem to evaporate. Go figure.

Arbelour 16 is probably my favorite unpeated scotch. I have been leaning towards the peaty stuff when picking up scotch lately though, just not enough flavor outside of the Islay region for my current preferences.

Finally scored one of these, has anyone tried it yet? If so, how does it compare to the Yellow or Red?

I wonder if the Blue Spot is better with Mexican Coke or Dr. Pepper. Please report back.

It hasn’t been released in a long time, since the 60’s according to the M&S website. I hope you can find a bottle.

You know the real DP is reserved for Pappy! Dr. Thunder with a splash of Sunny D for the Blue Spot.

Our home's 'Keeper of the Quaich' in front of some of the collection. Starting to suspect there is some illicit sampling going on - that or narcolepsy.
