Vibration rough acceleration

Hi all,

I got 2016 x1 2.5d when accelerating especially in 1st gear i get this vibration around 1500rpm not sure what this is. I feel like its gear box related but not sure..

Car still under warranty but wanted to see if anyone has experience this issue. Also this engine seem very loud compared to the old 2.5d sound like a tractor

Any help be much appreciated

Thanks

Neetin

Check engine/gearbox mounts. These have been an issue on the X1

I have same model and year, totally agree that the engine is so noisy, I had a problem that felt like something was grinding as I pulled away particularly worse when turning, dealers initially said there was nothing wrong, I insisted a technician came out with me, as soon as I pulled away he felt it, I thought the grinding was coming from the front but he thought it was at the rear, they replaced a rear drive shaft but this made no difference, they then replaced a hydraulic pump and ECU on the rear diff, this cured it
This would have cost a couple of grand if it wasnt under warranty, I have just done a service myself whilst I e got nothing better to do during lockdown and had a good look at the lower engine mount and there is clearly play in the Bush,

In a couple of cases, the engine mounts on early X1s have broken and required welding, so I suggest you have this inspected, too

Just update from BMW they saying they cant find anything having had the car since yesterday.. I had to explain the issue to them again but due to the lockdown cannot show them as i need a technician to come out for a drive with myself with all the social distancing and everything. I am hoping they keep the car for a few more day so that they can diagnose the issue better..

Sounds familiar
I bet if it was out of warranty they'd be able to find the fault , i don't think they know what they're looking for unless it's got a fault.

Perhaps try an independent specialist, if there's one close by. Pay for an inspection/test drive report

What can it be?
Always use the highest grade of fuel, any grade lower than the suggested grade can cause vibration. Check to see if you need to replace air filter. Also you can try to reset the engine's ECU by pressing on the gas pedal for 10 second with the power ON engine OFF, then leave the car off for 15 mins.

Not relevant in the UK for the Original Poster's problem because we only have one grade of diesel coming out of the refineries. It is to BS EN 590:2009 standard.

I am sorry to say this is one of those "old wives tails" that has been going around forums since Pontias was a pilot. It is simply not true. Anyone saying they have noticed a difference is kidding themselves. Perhaps described as the "Placebo effect".

The correct course of action is:

Oh I thought he was running petrol. My bad.

As for the reset, I wouldn’t have believed it too if that had not worked for me. But that actually fixed my rough idling engine when I changed over to a higher grade fuel 2 years ago. The rough idling sound disappeared immediately.

I have to reset it once in a while now as well as my boost controller messes with the mapping of the timing and fuel injection, especially when it start throwing codes.

In my experiences, it absolutely work, and your engine will end up running slightly different every time as the ecu settle down.

But of course the best course of action is taking it to a specialist. But there’s not really a need to be on this forum anymore is there?

You are suffering from the "Placebo effect" and with the greatest respect, you do not understand "Engine Control Units". If you are happy to believe it, then all well and good. Enjoy your fantasy!
The procedure you are countenancing was banded around recently to cure sluggish automatic gearbox issues.
As stated previously it IS an old wives tale and also recently appeared on some other manufacturers forums as a cure for turbo lag.
With regards to the fuel issue, as stated all UK diesel fuel HAS to conform to the standard I posted in my previous thread. Some fuel suppliers put in additives, but that is another topic for discussion.
