Northern Meet 4 - Pick Your Date!!

Ladies, Gents,

In Yorkshire, it's a well known fact that for just a few short months each year, the honest, humble folk that live here experience what the rest of the world so often takes for granted.... A phenomenon known as 'sunshine.'

Sometimes, in celebration of this rare gift, a number of us will congregate in the same place and engage in some sort of social event known as a 'Northern Meet.'

So far, there have been 3 of these Northern Meets and each one has been very well organised, attended by many and notable for its warmth and welcome. We've had some fantastic drives, seen some amazing places and enjoyed more than a few delicious curries, pub lunches and the odd beer along the way!

This years Northern Meet (NM4) is expected to be the best yet. Gav and I are hoping for a huge turnout both from regular and local members and also those who come from further afield.

So, heres a QUICK overview of what is in store this year, just to whet your appetite!

Location
NM4 will be hosted almost exclusively in the North Yorkshire Moors, with a base at Scotch Corner and drives across some of the most beautiful scenery this country has to offer.

There will be two drives, with a 'main' trip out taking place on Saturday and lasting several hours and then a more relaxed drive on Sunday for those who want to stick around.

Included in the 'main' Saturday drive will be a run over the famous Buttertubs Pass - a road which Jeremy Clarkson rates amongst his favourite all-time places to drive.

Accomodation, Food and Drink
As always, a hotel will be chosen for the event which will run from Friday to Sunday, with a special rate agreed for those in attendance. We'll be keeping things informal on the Friday night, with a scouting trip into Carlton being quite likely followed by beer or two and whatever fayre takes our fancy.

On Saturday, we're hoping to treat you guys to a really good curry and probably quite a few beers due to the fact that the driving on Sunday will be much less taxing!

On Sunday, a few of us are likely to hang around for a short drive out to grab a quick lunch and say our goodbyes. This bit is totally optional and we fully understand if members from further afield want to head home early!!

The Dates
So, the purpose of this thread is NOT actually to tell you how awesome the Northern Meet is going to be (although it should have done that too) but in fact, we'd like to give you a choice about which weekend we should hold the event.

So, you have two choices, which are either:

The weekend of 15, 16 and 17th June or the following weekend which is 22, 23 and 24th June.

As you probably know, one of these weekends includes Fathers Day on the Sunday, so what better way to celebrate the day than by doing something you actually want to do?

OR, if you're one of those guys who just HAS to please the missus and kids by actually being at home on Fathers Day, then why not choose the other option?

Either way, we're going to use this opportunity to see what date is best and get this thing organised. I hope to see lots of votes, lots of comments and lots of faces there on the day when this event goes ahead!

For avoidance of doubt, your WAGS are WELCOME to come along and both Gav and I will be in attendance with our better halves. You can come for the Saturday only, or for any other combination of days/nights over the weekend - so don't feel you need to book the whole thing. Just let us know when it comes to booking!!

Thanks all,

Regards
Matt and Gav

Either for me mate.

Likely Saturday only. Haven't voted, should I, will it let me vote twice or do you need to add that option.

Thanks Tim!

Hope it works out for you - I am pretty easy about either day, so hoping for a massive amount of votes for options 1 and 3 (in which case we will go with option 1 of course.)

Thanks
Matt

Here is how I see it:

90% of the cost in attending any meet is the hotel, food, drink and cost of the fuel on the main drive. Your commute to/from will hardly change that, so think of this as any other meet - just requiring of a little more planning.

Let's not forget that we've not had a meet for ages AND the Northern Meets have all been fantastic so far - should set up the 2012 E90Post calendar nicely.

Sales pitch = done.

It sounds like a really fun day out - especially as being a WAG, I am permitted to join in the festivities.

I have only been on the Cotswolds meet so far, and that turned out to be a brilliant day out.

In for the 22/23/24

50/50 for 15/16/17

Great roads, with light traffic, will be decent.

Looking forward to my first meet, any date is great with me. I think I'll only be there for the Saturday blast, but could change.
