Car's overheating to yellow and red and mechanic not able to solve the problem.

Hi guys, my 328i has been overheating. I showed it to my dealer who has tried different things even changed Wpump/Thermostat, but the problem still persists. Can anyone help with what it could possibly be?

Thank you

Garage List
A few things to consider:

1. Does the shop have actual experience working on BMWs?
2. Was the cooling system bleed procedure done?
3. Were quality parts used?
4. Were those parts verified to be working? (during bleed procedure you can hear the water pump)
5. Is the electric cooling fan working correctly?
6. Has a scan tool been used to verify the car is actually getting hot?

Take it to an indy shop that specializes in BMWs and have them take the time check it thoroughly until they find the root cause.
The dealer is focused on volume and moving cars in and out quickly to maximize profit so they have no time for diagnosing issues like this that's why they just replaced the water pump and thermostat thinking that will solve the issue.

1. Don't think so, would change it but I've already paid them to fix this issue so hoping they can do so.
2. Yes, they claimed to do so.
3. I sure hope so.
4. I think they said it was working fine.
5/6. No idea, should probably find out.

I do intend to do that, it's just that I had already paid him to get the job done and I don't want to end up spending more elsewhere now.

The sad truth is indy shops are now doing the same thing. They dont want to spend time diagnosing such issues.

BMW dealer, or indy?
Throwing any codes?
Used the secret menu to observe coolant temps?

Had this problem on a non bmw. Turned out to be a clogged radiator.

After driving, turn off the car and feel the radiator for hot and cool spots. (Could also use an FLIR camera or handheld IR temp reader.) There shouldn’t be any hot/cool spots - temps should be pretty even.

Getting heat from the blower inside the car? Normal heat, or reduced?
