I would not be a happy camper if someone forced my door open to gain access.

That said, not knowing how the company culture is, I think a lot of this could be handled with a conversation. Seeing that this is coming from HR, you can bet your house this "warning" is just to have something documented. Maybe your buddy has been a PIA to deal with and they're building ammo for what's on the horizon?

As someone mentioned on here, HR is there to protect the company, not you. I've been in those meetings as a manager (I'm not in HR thank god). The mask makes it seem like they are your resource, but in a leadership meeting the truth is clear - protect the company by way of documentation.
Nope, my friend has never been a problem to the company the 5 years he's worked there. HR has been in PIA for him ever since my friend started to make more money than HR (per his supervisor a year ago).

If that's the case, then yes, your friend is a PIA to HR. It may not seem that way because your friend is a good worker, but if there is a level of animosity based on income (which I feel that is more coincidental and a scapegoat), then I'd say he's a PIA. Just not in the traditional sense

There are many people in that company that surely make leaps more than HR. Are they getting crapped on, too?

Sounds like a perfect time to invite HR person out for some drinks (while collecting data on the back end for future use) .

Maybe, who knows. I've never had a shitty HR. I mean, it's not my friend's fault he's been working hard to make more money.

You keep saying this but it does not make sense. If he makes more than HR, then so does his manager. I am sure there are a lot at the company that makes more than HR. Sounds like you're not getting all of the information.

I think the guy should send the HR guy an email asking if this is really what happened.

I prefer an environment of openness and trust, but this seems to be our world now.
It's also an effective tool in an "Active Crackhead" scenario which is all too common at my HQ in downtown Seattle. A few times a year they would make it past the security guard at the front desk and go wandering the hallways looking for offices to loot or a nice place to shoot up. Last straw for us was a dude who sauntered into our suite, vomited, and face-planted in our reception area. Now we keep the vomity junkies safely out in the hallway by the elevators where they belong, thanks to our keycard access.

If an action is in the grey zone regarding company policy, and HR employs humans to interpret both the action and the policy, it's possible and potentially likely that the grey area action could be a terminable offense. Humans do what humans do, which is behave like (imperfect) humans.

People get dismissed for good, and not so good, reasons every day.

Grey areas become black and white very quickly, in the eyes of management, if the business outlook changes. If a company loses a customer contract, commodity prices go up, or a competitor lowers price in the market, management will quickly look for ways to reduce cost. This can and does include reducing employee cost using any and all means at their disposal.
That is very interesting. It is not at all the case in Canada, or at least BC.

One of the 3 requirements of discipline that must be met under our labour standards in BC basically amounts to this...

An Employer cannot implement a policy, not make the employee aware of such policy exists, and then discipline them for breaking such policy. The employee knowing the company has a policy manual, does not excuse the employer from explaining the policy to the employee when implementing it.

You sir, win The Internet today! Congratulations!

I hope the OPs friend, who is the actual victim, isn't made to shake hands after this whole episode comes to a head.

I'll show myself out now.

Don't blame me, DETRoadster requested my special attention.

I've heard it all in management in Pharma. The best was a guy who rubbed one out on a Zoom call without knowing his camera was on.

Employers in the U.S. typically require employees to sign acknowledgments that they are aware of and have read policies to eliminate ambiguity over whether an employee is aware of / understands a policy or not.

Many years back I had a guy working in my department (in marketing) get caught in his office doing just that (by a young woman no less). It was good to have an HR dept that one time to get rid of him because I’m not sure I could have done it without laughing or slapping him across the ear.

We later discovered a bunch folders with porn pics (this was before high speed Internet and videos on demand) and wondered if he had been running a web site using our servers. I’m talking thousands of pics. He seemed to enjoy the hairy genre. Fucking guy moved from Seattle to Miami with his wife and young kids for this job. Had no choice but to fire him and always wondered how he explained it to his wife.

I'd tell your buddy to start actively looking for a better employer. BS like this doesn't go away unless either that HR leaves or he does.

Any molding shop I've been in is loud. Could be the HR fucktard didn't hear the knocking. But odds higher just ignored it because fapping.

IMO, I've nver met a good HR person. Doubt I ever will.
I don't care what you have going on, you drop it and make time for the employee right in front of you. It's no different that your kid coming up and asking for your attention. Give it to them unconditionally and immediately. Or at least acknowledge them and ask them to wait ... barging through a door or not. Just act like a fucking civilized human no matter what's in front of you.

I was once fired for sexual harassment on another male. On a day that I wasn't even at work. Days before I would have went from a temp employee to a full time one.
Later found out the guy I harassed was the boyfriend of the guy who fired me. I'm not into dudes BTW.
Both them where fired a few months later. Not sure as to why.
I had no leg to stand on and if the company was willing to pull that kind of shit I had no desire to offer my time to help them.

Makes me glad I haven't had to work anywhere with an HR department in probably a decade. The last HR dept I remember was ran by a some asshole dipshit with little man syndrome. I don't recall of anyone in the company that didn't hate the dickwad. It was actually one of the best places I've worked at UNTIL they got an HR department and tried to be all corporate.

The issue here is that HR is meant to protect the company, not necessarily the individual employees. Whether or not the HR department acts in an ethical manner is a whole different story though.

I worked at a place once where the head of IT was fired for emailing dick picks, of himself, to himself. Never did figure out the logic behind that one. I mean, it's your own dick. Just look down if that's your thing.
