Pleasantly surprised by dog capacity of our new X1
When we were researching car options, one concern was being able to transport our two large-ish dogs (we were upgrading from my wife’s Ford Escape and our other car is an old Volvo XC90, which is huge).
The conclusion was that most of the subcompact SUV’s we looked at (X1, Volvo XC40, Audi Q3) should be fine, and this was borne out on delivery of our new X1. With our dogs (an 80 lb greyhound and a 50 lb saluki/greyhound mix) I think we’ll always need to have at least some of the rear seats down, but that’s true even in the XC90. Here are a few photos for anyone else who might be considering the X1 as a dog taxi in the future. |

I too was pleasantly surprised by the roomy cargo in the back. I’m an avid mountain biker, and snowboarder, and find the trunk space more than enough to haul gear in.
Enjoy your new vehicle and good luck with it! |

They look quite comfortable back there. The greyhound mix is an interesting pup. The X1 is perhaps not high enough for them to stand comfortably but otherwise lots of room for them both. Don't forget some 3m protection film or vinyl wrap on the rear bumper to pretext from scratches when they hop in and out, but also so they don't slip.

She also handles 8’ lumber!
Although that’s the limit, and I put some foam to make sure the dash didn’t get bashed.
btw the price (of lumber) is finally coming down, although still crazy. We’ve had 8’ 2x4s over $11CAD at local big box stores, but the last week I’ve seen it change every couple of days. Was down to $7 yesterday - last year they were $3 and change I know this is kind of lame compared to threads talking about water injected M4s, but could be of interest to somebody somewhere! |

My wife manages to stuff a stand up paddleboard in the X1 almost every morning. We live near the beach and she goes on the water for a few hours before the baby wakes up. I will eventually get a roof rack for her though, but that's a 9.5 foot board she gets in there.

Any pictures of an MTB in the back?
I just picked an X1 up and was wondering what the space would be like, haven't had a chance to test it yet. I have a 27,5" MTB, I guess I'm gonna have to take the front wheel off..? |

I wanted to fit my dogs crate in my X1 but unfortunately I found that the boot is not deep enough unless the parcel tray is removed.
Its the only thing that has disappointed me about the car. |
