creaking at front

X1 2016 F48 M Sport Package w/ DDC, xDrive, 19" M alloy wheels
M Sport Suspension
Miles 96,000+

Over speed bumps and pot holes there are creaking noise in front both left and right. I think also sometimes in rear area as well. I honestly have had this noise since probably at 21000 miles.

Would it be the strut bearing mounts or the struts (and/or springs) themselves?

If so, because of the "M Sport Suspension", would the factory struts be Bilstein B8 or B4 or "Touring B4 Plus"? Those are the options I saw at fcpeuro.com -- but all are backordered.

Would you recommend also replacing the springs if struts are culprit?

Is this the correct part for the "strut bearing mount" AKA "upper plate"?

Thank you guys for taking time to answer my questions.

More than likely your tension strut bushings. Top mounts usually don't cause creaking.

Could be a number of things get an Indy garage to identify the issue usually easy enough on a lift with a crow bar.

Strut top mount creaking is a very common problem on F48s. BMW sell thousands of them a year in UK alone. Had to replace mine at 22,000 miles. Only creaked when turning the wheel at very slow speed (crawl). Didn't creak over bumps. Now I have an occasional knocking sound when I do go over bumps, having it checked out at the next service.

I had the Strut mounts replaced due to creaking when turning the steering wheel. But I'm also now hearing creaking noise during bumps. the odd thing is I only hear it when it's cold outside (30 F ) or less. started couple of years ago. But now its getting worse.

I have the same issue on my f48. It is reasonably noticeable in the cold. I hear nothing on my f30, so it is something different on the f48.

Thanks for insight! Will probably replace this as well.

Yes strut mount that is my first thought. Odd yours didn’t creak on bumps.
Had same issue in my long gone saab.
Will likely replace this as well as the bushing mentioned above.
Thanks.

You and Wadadli above only at wheel turn. Mmhhh making me think less of strut mount now.

Mine creak over speed bumps in the cold weather. I'm genuinely not concerned about it. 2016 M Sport xdrive 28i 76,000 miles.

Sounds like it could be the BMW TSB:

That is correct. i was educated the hard way when i thought a TSB meant covered work. Dealership won that day.

Same here. I had this problem a couple of years ago and I had to pay for it fully.

Recently picked up a 2017 F48 with the M-sport package. 35k mile car, good service records. I have noticed this too, a "clunking creak" when going over any bump akin to a speedbump, and only when its cold, as it is now in the Chicago area. Even after the car gets warm, it seems to not be noticeable. Only ever on the drivers side.

Strut mounts, control arms? What have people been having success with most?

Does anyone know of an aftermarket upgrade for the upper strut mounts? Seems silly to just buy another one of the part that isn't any good.
