BMW Ice Storm X1 recalled... wait for 2016?
Hey guys,
We just replaced our E84 - 2012 unit with a 2015 unit this spring and got a surprise in the mail that BMW is recalling our vehicle due to something that happened prior to delivery in the winter of 2015 at the Halifax port (something about de-icing that could affect its future safety). In a nutshell, BMW is taking back our X1 and getting us into a new one. We are very happy with our latest E84 (except the materials (plastics) inside are crappier than in our early 2012 production unit... which I don't understand). There are some 2015s still floating around and I'm not sure about waiting for the F48 as I have some concerns that its not as good as the E84. Have any of you felt any difference in the handling and acceleration characteristics going from a ZF-8spd to the Aisan-8spd, or the fact we are going from a RWD bias to a FWD bias ? I have read a lot of negative comments about the Aisan-8SPD transmission in other vehicles but I'd love to have some reviews in the X1 contexts. All comments / advice welcome. |

Just a couple of data points, Porsche also uses some Aisin transmissions, and Aisin is the largest producer of automatic transmissions in the world.
