Transverse mounted engine with front wheel drive bias. You can feel the torque-steer under power in a turn. Door armrests are too low for a 6' man. Very odd driver's seat position sits you very high like you're sitting on the car, not in the car like most BMW's. Exterior design is very nice. Welcome to a MINI with BMW clothes.

we just had one brought out for training and it was mineral white with the mocha (not sure exactly what its called on the x1) interior. it is a VERY nice car. it is an upgrade in every single way (except the sporty drive but whoe cares its an x1) over the previous gen. we had someone 6'4 sit in the driver seat and another guy that is 6'2 sit right behind him and there was plenty of room. i absolutely love this car and i honestly feel like its going to really hurt x3 sales. and this car shares a lot of stuff with mini. same seats, same transmission (thats why it has the weird shifter), and same engine. and very soon bmw will be sharing chassis with mini. bmw is going towards universal parts.

That's xLine trim in Mineral White. I posted these in the real life photo thread a couple of days ago. One of the admins must've seen it and posted them in a separate thread. It's actually a good idea to have separate threads for each colour I think.

Your post is confusing at least. If is not sporty, why buy it? A BMW shouldn't be sporty? All I read from your sentence is that two tall people can fit in it. And that is nice; what is nice? Two tall people can fit in a half price Kia too. If is not sporty how is going to hurt the X3? The X1 has a certain niche and is damn good at it (the old one). Drive it. You will care. You might even drop the 3 series for it. You will not be the first one. |

Tracus the majority of people that are buying an x1 dont really care about sporty driving. they are looking for something, nice, cheap, and more room/not as low as a 3 series. i'd say 7/10 bmw buyers are buying for the name, not the drive. if you look at our direct competion (audi, mercedes) the x1 is still faster, better gas mileage, and more room.

Not so sure about 7/10. The handful of E84 X1 35i drivers I know all bought because it was a sportier car than the US 328xi F31. Not as nice inside, but sportier. The days of spartan, sporty BMW's have largely given way to gadgetry and cush. Now, back to waiting on M2 info...

I'd probably buy this for my parents. Looks good. Can't wait to see the M-Sport diesel version in person or the FWD gas.

The only FWD (sDrive) version is 18d for now. I'm sure they'll introduce more engines 2~3 years down the line, with hybrid already confirmed. But there are no other FWD versions available at launch. 20i, 25i (called 28i in the US), 20d and 25d all come with xDrive as standard.

Meh on the porky X4, would do a Macan if I wanted a full blown SUV, but agree with your other points, well said.
From a marketing standpoint, the F48 is better for the average consumer. So are the F series cars. Short term sales are up, and will likely continue as fwd spreads. But passion is way, way down at BMW and long term brand interest is surely leveling or declining. I've owned BMW's for 15 years but outside of the M2, have no interest in their current lineup. I'm seeing a lot of my enthusiast friends switch brands too. Sales are cool, but Toyota sells tons of cars, non of which are the best in class. |
