I've read that there are problems with the new software upgrade. Will the dealer give me problems if I tell them not to alter the software? How bad is the turbo lag? TIA

I didn't try and refuse the new software so can't answer that part of your question. Regarding turbo lag, there is a bit more when flooring it at low revs but nothing noticeable at medium or high revs. If it had been done without my knowledge I might not have noticed it but I was looking out for it from forum comments. The exhaust pops and burbles on the over-run which it didn't used to to, and the vacuum-operated flap in the exhaust sometimes makes a metallic noise - both of these are because of the new software. The fuel economy is improved a bit. If the software has been changed to protect the longevity of the engine then the dealier might give you a hard time if you refuse.

You may only have to deal with the lag for a few months.

They won't update the software unless they have a reason to. If you're going in for maintenance, then there is no reason to update the software. They'll only update it if you tell them of a problem in which programming is part of the repair.
