Also seems like the media can't wait to escalate a news story. they loved all the hysteria of possible extra shooters. I'm sure the police were just being cautious to make sure the scene was clear and the news took it as breaking news and shock and awe to get more people interested.

Actually it is known now that Aaron Alexis, despite being a "civilian contractor", also served full-time in the US Navy reserve from 2007 to 2011 as petty officer 3rd class. This can explain where those seemengly contradictory descriptions are stemming from.

My wife works for Lockheed here on the Cali coast. She got a robo-call this morning just after 0600 informing her of the shooting. . . then she called me to see if I knew anything???

Yeah, I saw a headline about a shooting at the ship yard back east. Since it's thousands of miles away, I didn't rush home to break out the armory. Go back to sleep, honey.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't consider removing school free zones to be "arming then". That suggests we take down the signs and then issue rifles to un-trained teachers and faculty members. To me, that's what "arming them" implies or at the very least, carries that connotation.

Most are simply talking about allowing those people who carry everywhere else ALREADY, not have that ability taken away in these isolated areas people prey on.

This is why many people don't like gun free zones. It perpetuates this idea that guns are some how dangerous and not people or somehow commit crime and not criminals. It's legislation based on fear and emotion and not facts or logic

So CNN was so quick to say it was a "fully automatic military style assault weapon, probably an AR15" yesterday.

Here is their current story:



I love how anyone who is not familiar with guns these days sees anything but a pistol and they conclude it must be the child killing fully automatic military assault weapon. Amazing how much influence the media has.


Sounds like he rolled in with a shotgun, stole two pistols from guards. No AR involved at all.

My local gun shop and range is among the 5 largest shop/ranges in the country and they don't have ARs for rent. They do have handguns for rent but even if they did rent ARs, just like the hand guns, you wouldn't be able to take them outside of their range.

It's like they added that garbage so they didn't seem so off base with their "facts".

Of the multiple locations around me, some pretty popular (one was even on TV), I've never heard of renting an AR. Not to mention renting it and taking it off their premises.

The media in this country is out of control.

It was probably at a shooting range (only place I have heard of it), they love to write AR15 and will come up with any reason to do so.
