How to remove stock charge pipe?
Anybody have any experience removing the stock chargepipe or know of a detailed "how-to" instructions?
I went to look at removing the stock charge pipe (from TB to Intercooler) and im stuck at the clips on how to remove? Also, if there is a certain sequence to attack this? I did remove the bottom tray and it seems I may need to remove the inner fender liner (which towards the wheels, it is riveted onto the body. So if I remove the rivets and I need rivet in new ones in ... Im so used to modding my E90, but the F48 is another story... This is part #1 of the modding session... Still need to mod the boost pipe itself...

No problem. Glad to help out. You'll notice that the FTP charge pipe is actually smaller in diameter than the OEM. I suspect this will allow for faster spooling of the Turbo. Boh of these pipes, along with a DP, and an ECU tune really transform the X1 into something deserving of an M-Sport moniker, IMO.

I know this thread is a little old but my stock charge pipe is shot and I wanted to upgrade as it’s causing my vehicle to fail inspection.
I have a 2017 X1 MSport and wanted to know which pipe from FTP you ended up using for this. Is it the same one for the mini b48? Thanks in advance and hope your aftermarket pipe is holding up well. |

A few months ago, I spoke with an FTP representative. He confirmed that for F48 2.0i, I should get this one: https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...ipe-x1-2at-2gt (be advised to select the correct engine version from the pick-list).
Keep in mind that the one I selected is a kit that includes boost pipe & charge pipe (2). I didn't buy it yet, so confirmation from someone who actually installed it would be nice, too =). Quote:

Its so funny to me that his thread is alive again because I just had a dilemma with changing the charge pipe.
Firstly, I was on Turner Motorsport looking for the upgraded charge pipe. I found this https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...pe-kit/?pdk=AQ. The website indicated that it would fit for my car but unfortunately that was not the case. I contacted Turner about it, nothing heard. Then I emailed the manufacturer and they stated that is only made for the 2/3/4 series LOL. @Jrveron The FTP charge pipe will work for sure. https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...e-x1-2at-2gt-1 I got this one for the 28i model. It just arrived yesterday. Ill probably get it installed this weekend. With that being said I also highly recommend getting this https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...ipe-inlet-pipe I installed it last weekend and OMG you can really feel the throttle response is way more snappy. Love it. Will give updates on how the install goes for the charge pipe+boost pipe. Planning on making a whole new thread on my X1 since I am full modding it TTYL all! |

Awesome!
I would love to see a guide on how to change boost & charge pipe =). ISTA gives excellent guidance, but you know, nothing like a real-life experience. Thanks for the info about the inlet pipe. I saw it on their website, but I thought it was too expensive for what it was supposed to do. Now with your insight, I may add it to my overwhelming-long mods list, haha. Quote:

I've replaced mine with the FTP charge and boost pipes two years ago after my boost start leaking (from the mods I guess). It's been amazing so far! Sounds and respond way better and have a hole ready for watermeth injection. Charge pipe was relatively easy to remove compared to the boost pipe. That requires some cutting to twist off the pipe if you don't want to remove too much stuffs. I would recommend going to a mechanic for this for sure though.

Just want to validate that this will work on a 2018. FTP has it listed for X1 F48 (11/2014 — 06/2016)
This is the one I'm looking at - https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...e-x1-2at-2gt-1 |

Hi guys! Could someone please do me a favor? Could you take a picture of the pipes you bought? And, if it isn't too much to ask, please measure the diameter of the charge pipe?
I'm in Mexico and we receive the X1 2.0i (European version), so I bought these pipes from FTP: https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...ipe-x1-2at-2gt. The problem I see is that the FTP charge pipe diameter (~8 inches) is smaller than OEM charge pipe (between 9 and 9.5 inches?). I spoke with Kayo, who is the CEO of FTP, and he said the version I got it's fine for me since the other one is for JCW and X1 28i (https://www.ftpmotorsport.com.tw/pro...e-x1-2at-2gt-1) and the design of the engines, between 2.0i (European Market) and 28i (US market), is a little different. He also said that the version I got is designed for up to 250 WHP. And that confused me more because I'm already producing 270hp to the wheels, so raise more questions. Will these pipes hold more boost? Will they blow up? Will they 'drain' HPs? . Any insight will be appreciated . Thanks!

Just got mine delivered. Not sure what you want measured though. Do you have any good installation docs or vids? The ones provided in an earlier post are no longer valid |

Please measure the diameter of the charge pipe; see the picture attached (swblake_bmw-pipe.jpg). I marked it with a red arrow. Thanks in advance! I have a dumb question, but here it goes. Do you know what end goes to the Throttle Body? Is it the "super good looking aluminum" end or the other? See attached picture (ftp_pipes.png). I'm also attaching the ISTA manuals for installing the 2 pipes (boost pipe and charge pipe). Be aware that these can be more difficult, and some steps aren't necessary. For example, it says to drill out blind rivets from chassis . For a more practical reference, take a look at this video. In real life, you just cut the boost pipe to remove it.

Another tip, put some blue Loctite (243) on the Methanol screw on the charge pipe.
