New owner - 18 CPO X1. Have questions!
Hello, I am a proud owner of 2018 CPO X1 (23k miles) I just purchased for $25750. I will be picking up the car on Monday afternoon. Probably not the best price, but I was able to knock almost $4k from the original price.
Here are some questions I have about X1: 1. Having driven Audi Q5 (2018) for few years, X1 steering felt extremely heavy and awkward. Maybe I will get used to this but difference was fairly significant. Anyone else noticed the same? I was aware that BMW is known for heavy steering wheel feel, but it was much heavier than expected. 2. Car I picked up has rear emblem located under the taillights. Does this mean the car was built after a certain date? Anyone knows why BMW made this change during the same model year? Anything else changed besides the emblems? 3. Car has navigation. Does this mean the car is equipped with a heads up display and LED headlights? When I test drove the car I did not see the heads up display on the windshield. If the car came with the navigation, can I assume that the car has the premium package? Listing on the dealer web site does not specify what options the car came with. 4. Have a set of winter wheels/tires used one season on Q5. I did Google and read that both BMW and Audi wheels are interchangeable (5-112). Is this true? I plan to ask the sales person when I pick up the car, but figured I would ask questions here first. Thank you! Last edited by malelee21; 03-20-2021 at 08:53 PM.. |

Welcome to the group.
You can use one of the vin decoders online to see all the options your car have. Mine is 2018 built in Nov 2017. The X1 badge is on the upper right corner the trunk. Yours might be built later just before the place change on 2019 models. For the tire it's 5x 112 but the hub is 66.6 mm. You can compare with ur Q5 wheel spec. Hope this helps a bit. |

Thanks. I looked up using vin number and it appears that the car came with navigation without the LED light or heads up display. I thought navigation only came with premium package, but I guess I was wrong.
Car also has lighting package and sports seats. |

https://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1805936 I don't find the steering extremely heavy compared to my previous cars. Rather, I find it firm, precise and creamy. |

If I remember correctly, there are multiple levels of navigation options.

You can confirm your Q5 wheels with the X1 spdcs (including offset):

Wow, thank you everyone for your inputs. This site is super friendly and has so much information!
I just purchased chrome rear bumper sill protector on ebay for $50 and my next purchase will most likely be painted side molding ($160 on ebay). Last edited by malelee21; 03-20-2021 at 10:18 PM.. |

+1 on the all weather mats. With my teen driver claiming our X1 as her car, the mats have held up well to the wear and tear of a teen who plays a lot of competitive sports.

I finally picked up the car and had a chance to drive enough to compare this car against 2018 Audi Q5.
Car definitely feels quick and handles good, but engine lacks refinement and smooth power delivery of Q5. Ride is also uncomfortable and a bit too stiff likely attributed to RF tires. Car felt similar to Q3 as both cars have engine that feels coarse and lacks refinement. Another disappointment is the lighting as I can barely see at night with halogen light (too orange) as full LED in Q5 was easily 2x brighter. Q5 had BO premium stereo with 21 speakers so car sounded super nice. After reading through all the negative reviews on HIFI stereo, I was surprised at how nice it sounded. I think it is perfectly fine except for a lacking high frequency sound, which HK mod can easily fix. I know it is not fair to compare two cars that are not in the same class, but figured I’d point out a few things. All in all, I like the car and quite happy with the purchase. |

In the Q5 you probably had the 6-cylinder engine, which is almost always going to be more refined than a 4-cylinder one. As you said, cars are different classes.
The non-LED lights in the X1 are sadly a common complaint, yes. Glad you enjoy the car. |

The only time a 6 pot engine is put into a Q5 is when it is made as an SQ5.

I have a 340 (2018) and an X1 (2016) so I see the 4 and 6 cylinder engines regularly. I think both are great engines and both are have very good giddy up and go power. By comparison the 6 cylinder b58 is much smoother and powerful but if I per se accelerate at the same rate (not the same speed) I think my X1 sounds and acts similarly. Yes no doubt that it is easier to get up to highway speed with a car that has 100 or so more HP and TQ. I guess what I am trying to say is I am very happy with both vehicles and to me they both meet my needs and are perfect for us. My teen likes the X1 so honestly I am glad it has the smaller engine as she can't get in as much trouble. When she drives my car and pounds the pedal to pull on to the highway thinking she is driving her car, it seems like all heck is breaking loose.

Did you spend much time to test drive the X1 and/or other cars before deciding? |

After driving the car for one week I noticed the following.
1. Steering feels heavy but I have already gotten used to it. Steering definitely feels lighter in eco mode. 2. No rattle or clunking I used to hear from 2018 Audi Q5. 3. HIFI sounds pretty good, but decided to order Bavsound stage 1 kit. 4. Lighting is pretty dim but foglight makes a huge difference. I am installing Osram Nightbreaker bulbs tomorrow. All in all, this is a fun SUV with awesome practicality. |
