Post pic of cell phone holder
I tried several phone holders and so far couldn’t come up with the best one due to the way X1 center dash is designed with steep angle.
Anyone found the one that works well? |

Not an X1 but my X2.
I tried so many variations of cd or vent magnet mounts and gave up and bought a proclip. Didn’t even use the adhesive strip. The mount clamps in strong. |

Not using it on my X1 as I have the wireless charging, but I can definitely vouch for pro clip having used it on other vehicles. Not cheap, but by far the best one-handed mount on the market.

I just leave mine in the cubby between the seats whilst driving.
Why do you need to see your phone whilst driving? Sat Nav? |

my phone is too big (with the case on) to fit in the wireless charger. I have carplay but I still use Waze on my phone. I rarely use the car's nav. guess I'm just weird.

Yes. I love the nav in the hud but I need Waze for the police sightings. Lol
I never used car play in my f33 either. I use it whenever I drive my daughter’s Subaru. Once I figure out how to remove the wireless charger from my car, I’ll have more storage room. Last edited by chowser51; 04-24-2021 at 08:03 PM.. |

My wireless charger is useless, won't fit my phone. Been using a $10 phone magnet that clips to the vents, works fine and looks decent. Hate CarPlay display, and WAZE is a must for avoiding traffic, police, cameras, etc.

This has to be the best way of going about it.
It clips over the hazard button and vent controls without blocking anything (even the buttons underneath are accessible). There is a bit of a disconcerting wobble, although I don't think it will be a problem, and there is a lot of maneuverability in terms of how it's positioned and the size of phones it can accommodate (touch sensitive arms). Unfortunately, I assume (especially with the blatant copyright infringement) that this unit isn't sold outside of China (or maybe on Aliexpress?) |

I put a metal plate between the phone and the case or the work Samsung S8 work phone is magnet friendly. So I found the magnet that I put it in the middle between the radio and climate control buttons (see pictures).
Usually, I put it in the landscape way, so the temperature knobs serve as support point. In portait way, it holds in place very well, unless you hit a large pothole hard (never happened yet, just guessing based on magnet uses in the past in another car). |

Another vote for the ProClip! When I recently upgraded my phone for one with a larger display, I only had to buy a larger phone holder and not a new dashboard mount (a 50% savings). They also sell holders to fit a tablet - all mount to the same dashboard bracket.

I hated the HUD directions at first because it overrides display of other info. Now, I wouldn't live without it. It simply seems safer than looking down to the map when I'm making decisions in traffic.

With wireless CarPlay I have no reason to take my phone out of my bag, so no holder needed, and if it needs to charge there's the wireless charger in the console.

It didn't fit my iPhone XS Max. I got a new iPhone 12 PRO (not the max) and it fits the charger. But the second I put any type of protective case on the phone, it doesn't fit anymore. So my wireless charger in the glovebox is useless. I've been trying to find some instructions online on how to remove it so I can have more storage space. |

However the component I'm discussing is a simple plastic or metal part that you pull the console power tray, unscrew the 2 screws in teh old bracket and put the new part in, there is no wiring, and I'm sure from a technical standpoint you would void the warranty on that charger. When someone says "it would void the warranty" it's important to realize that you are voiding the warranty only for items that are directly related to or dependent on the item you modified, modifying the phone carrier does not void the warranty on the engine, the driveline, or the vehicle itself. The issue is if you do something like modify an engine component, that can be far reaching, increasing boost can bring forth many components touched by that change. Swapping a small 2.5" long piece of plastic does not void a warranty on more than the charging tray itself. |
