New My BMW App available

It replaces the BMW Connected App. Might be mistaken but it looks like a couple of Connected Drive services that were complimentary are now a $50 annual fee upgrade. Yum.

Switched my X2 over to the new app. My F33 is still on the old app. Waiting to figure out how to transfer it to the next owner.

Some layout differences, but otherwise functionality seems more or less the same.

Your heading title says " New My BMW App available".
This is not a put-down. Perhaps the app is now working in the US, but it certainly has been in use in Europe and the UK for a while. I have been using it since September 2020. Discussed on other UK forums.
In the UK once the user has registered for a new Connected Drive account and put the vehicle details in the account and linked it to the car, all the services that have been paid for appear in the app. Also the user is shown all the other options that are available and there are many.
The map function in the app in my opinion is good, with the ability to find a destination and send to the car. This is similar in many ways to the Google Maps send to car function.

From the original app we lost
International radio and the preferred news feed to be sent to the car

From the second app we lost
Apple watch functionality, horn, share trip link, radius view in map and one map view

This new app adds
A whole lot of links to their website to purchase 'subscriptions' almost all of which were already enabled on my car
Every external link you click asks you to login to myBMW.

This app is nothing but an advertisement and attempt to profit more from subscription services, not for any improved usability.

Someone convince me otherwise...

My X1 will be losing connected drive services so this app is useless to me. It's a 2016 with NAV and I can't believe they put such an outdated system in it.

What is outdated about it?

I would say.. have you seen other "modern cars"? Their mobile apps have as much if not more info than you can even find in the car itself.. some have car starters built in, I think the newest Idrive has the car starter. I don't see myself renewing the app unless it gets better features. I really don't see much use in the app itself. The subscription lapsed on my wife's 2016 X1 and I'm not going to renew.

It is all about what you want from an app. I do not think a lot of the modern stuff is necessary. It is all down to what the user wants or expects. That is the reason I asked the user called amancuso who said....

The app as far as I am concerned is just right.

The hardware communications device uses ANCIENT 3G service (which was ANCIENT when the car was built in 2016) which is being phased out while other models use something newer that will still be in service for a good while.

I like the new app. You can also link directly to your BMW Financial account to see payoff amount and bill details. I don't think the previous version did that.

I don't see why looking at the finance should even be included in an app meant to communicate to your car! You can login on the web with the exact same username and password to get that. Tire pressures, service intervals are all things that might help. Car starting is nice, and yes at least you can set the ventilation time which is at least something although I never have used that function in any of my other cars. Calling for service/roadside assistance was a nice add on that I didn't notice on the old app.

Well, that is one opinion. As you can see others differ.

Except what you feel the app should be is not what BMW thinks it should be, and that's why it doesn't make sense to you.
I'm sure if you were to listen to the pitch from the app team they would tell you that it's a "one stop location that can help you leverage your full BMW experience"
I can also pretty much assure you that they use/sell all the metrics of every click and swipe which is data that has values.

Last but not least the classic "kids today" da youts like apps and BMW desperately needs some younger customers to help their demographics.

Well of course point proven.. BMW has decided that it's important to look up your finances from the app meant to communicate to your car. Yet again.. car starter? Everyone else has it .. kind of like blind spot monitoring.. nah you don't need it on your X1 or X2, it takes away from the "driving experience".

Oh well.. nobody is forcing me to use the app!

Except remote start is one of those weird BMW quirks, they held out for the longest time, their logic was it's not allowed in their home turf and they wanted to try and respect that as part of their quirkiness.

That really is their core logic to not offering it until very recently and only on select models.

Yeah it was silly. Why not offer it in other markets? My daughter’s ancient 2007 Chevy has remote start from the factory.
