How to locate the reverse light wire in the Boot

Hi All,

I have BMW X1 2017 model- ED62675
I am trying to fit an aftermarket reverse camera, for that need to connect one end of the camera wire to the reverse parking light cable.
The problem is, I am not sure how to locate the wire.
Which part of the boot trim do I need to open to expose the wires.
It would be great if someone can please guide me on this.
Also, after exposing the wire, how can I find out which one is the reverse light wire?

Please note:- I am not trying to find the wire in the lid of the trunk. Looking for the wire in the boot, near to the backlights(from inside of the boot).

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Swati, how are you?

When I installed my aftermarket rear camera, I didn't need to connect it to reverse lights or ground, but mine is an MMI Box, so it's probably different.

All the cables (the master hub) run on the right of the trunk space. To remove the right trim of the trunk, you need to remove the floor first, along with some additional trim parts.

I attached a manual I did to install my MMI Box. It's a complete step-by-step on how to route the cables from the Headunit to the trunk, so cycle between the pages to see the ones you need.

Normally, you connect the rear camera with the reverse lights in the trunk's lid since you install the camera on the handle. I don't really know how to identify that cable on the 'master-hub' cables in the trunk, but one way to do it is by following the cable from the lid back to the trunk.

Some pictures of what I'm talking about with the 'master-hub' cables on the right of the trunk.

Hi jrveron, I am doing good thanks. I hope you are enjoying the life too.
Mine is not oem type of camera.its an normal cam with screen, so the normal oem kind of setting does not work for me. I need to connect the wire so that when i put my car in reverse gear, the cam triggers.
Thanks a lot for your detailed information and the manual. This helps.
I was thinking there might be an easy option to locate the wire without removing so many trims, however it looks like i need to go the hard way.
Will check and come back with more questions

Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy
