3 year issues

Hi All

My 2018 1.5 Sdrive sport goes in for end of warranty check next week and in the last 2 months 3 issues have started
1, Idrive random reboots
2 slow to pull away when cold uphill
3 and the latest , the phone disconnects every day and I have to connect back to the car
At least its made my mind up whether to take extended warranty
but has anybody else had these issues
Thanks

I have the same engine in my 2018 xLine 1.5ltr X1 auto but, over 32k miles to date, haven’t experienced any of the issues you mention. I have taken up the BMW extended warranty, including breakdown recovery, just for peace of mind.

Bluetooth disconnect every day is weird.

Is the phone disappearing completely from idrive? As in not listed under devices any more each day?

Any other setting being wiped? If so I would check your battery.

I assume your not talking about apple CarPlay.

Issue 1 and 3 is probably related to software. I had the random disconnects from day 1 on my Huawei phone. Switched to Apple, and ever since I haven't had issues. You might want to update you iDrive firmware version for issue 1.

Hi Tally100,

You may need to update the modules' software (BDC, Kombi, etc.) to the latest version to improve/reset communication between them. You can do it yourself with ISTA, but it's recommended to be done by the dealer unless you have an external power to prevent the car from going to sleep, tools, and knowledge. The process can take hours. It shouldn't be too expensive, between USD 100-200 at least here in Mexico.

My dealer did 3 or so updates on my X1 under warranty.

Your issues should be covered under warranty anyway, so they should do updates under warranty if that is the problem.

This may seem obvious, but did you upgrade your idrive to the latest version (which includes updates for stability and Bluetooth connectivity):

Dealer did updates on software for Idrive and bluetooth today under warranty will see how I go on. Front and rear pads down to 3mm after 25000 miles, is that normal ?

Yes, seems like a common problem.

My front pads only lasted 15,000 miles. My rear pads lasted 18,000 miles, and they changed the rear disk and the pads, all under warranty.

The funny thing is that yesterday I changed front disks and pads, and I have 23,000 miles. The pads still have a few miles left, but I was tired of the freaking noise and poor performance. I can attach some pictures if you like.

I spoke with BMW representatives, and they told me that the X1, the X5, and 4 series are having the same issues with poor pad performance, something about the compound. This could be related to the geography of Mexico (a lot of hills, downs, turns, traffic, etc.), but it's annoying anyway.

I think dealers may have special access to updates that are not available for owners to download.

I had a problem with my navigation RTTI and they fixed it with an update, even though the BMW website stated that my car was already up-to-date.

The public website only lists patches to the existing versions for download.

Dealers can reflash the headunit with newer firmware if available and if there's an error in the logs suggesting an update might help if it's under warranty. If you just ask them to update the headunit and there's not a code they can use for warranty updates, then they will ask you to pay for the time spent on updating the unit.
