I wouldn't count on it, 9 of 10 times those added features will be for newer model cars only.

+1, I agree. From a pragmatic standpoint it makes sense for bmw to design a new app from the ground up that fits the coming needs of 2022 cars and beyond. They know in house what those needs are and can design it for the future.

I don't see any reason why that they can't essentially provide the same functionality in the new app as is currently available in connected drive for any model year. Since any sensor or communication module that worked in connected drive are still available for the new app. Will they, that of course is another question. I understand that there are some changes coming as the 3G connectivity goes away.

Yes this is that planned obsolescence feature to encourage one to by a new vehicle…..

Really hope you all are wrong, at least about calendar integration. I absolutely love it when I get in my car and the nav automatically starts based on my calendar events. If Connected stops working and it isn’t added to the new app by then, I’ll be quite sad.

I tried using the app thru my phone as I thought I could input navigation easier that way, but I could never get it to push to my car.

Which model? No issues for me in the new app pushing from the map to the car.

So far I found the new app easier to use and faster than the old one, especially when setting destination with the app. I like that you can set a pin for quick login in the new one, the old one would always logout randomly, and you had to type full email + password over and over again. Other than that, functionality seems on par, nothing really stands out.

So they are updating. The horn feature is back for my 2018 and 2016 vehicles.

For my 2017 X1 (2016) build, the new My BMW app allows me to use Alexa and access Siri / (but not Google Assistant) from the vehicle. My vehicle does NOT have Carplay or a touchscreen. I thought this was pretty cool as it seems they rolled this feature into older vehicles. It seems to use bluetooth from the vehicle to the MyBMW app then trigger the voice feature on the phone. (long press of the 'speak' button on the steering wheel will work too.). I also have the car horn button still. I have had an issue with sending a destination to the car being delayed though and had to use the Connected App to send as we had 9 stops to make on that route.
