9592 vs 9595
Hi guys.... can anybody tell me if the 9592 bars will fit a 2016 F48?
The Thule website says 9595, but I cannot see any difference between the 9592 & 9595. Thanks |

Looking at the Thule user guides, the difference appears to be that the 9592 pack contains two bars exactly the same length, whereas the 9595 pack contains two bars of differing lengths. The diagrams below give an idea of the dimensions of the bars in the packs. I've never tried the Thule Wing Bars, I only have the square ones. If the website says you need the two different length Wing Bars for the F48, you might struggle to fit two the same...

I have the OEM bars on my X5 and noticed a bit of whistling when they were mounted where the manual recommended.. which was 460mm from front and 700mm in between (for the F15 X5). When I moved them back about 100mm the whistling sound almost completely went away.

I didn't get the manual so I tried to place them as close as possible to the positioning as some people have them in this thread. There is wind whistling that becomes more pronounced when traveling upwind above 45mph. Does you have a way to make them less noisy or is that someone I have to live with? Just wondering if you experienced the same and got used to it or if you did some fine tuning to minimize the wind noise. I have a panoramic sunroof that always has the shade open so I'm sure that doesn't help much either. |

Front bar should be 460mm from front of roof rail Rear bar should be 700mm behind the front bar To minimize noise ensure the front bars have the 3 spoilers on the bottom and the rubber inserts in the tops. ZZZZ |

The BMW bars are good quality and very easy and quick to put on and take off. One disadvantage is they will only fit in one precise location which is only two feet apart. Other brands, ie with the bars which extend beyond the clamps, is that you can mount the bars further apart. This is s big advantage when carrying anything long such as wood or ladders. I like to have them about 4 feet apart for stability. Check out Atera and CRUZ brands. Both are as good as Thule, but half the price.

2022 x1 BMW Roof Rails and 5 Liter Box
I have a US spec 2022 x1 xDrive in Spain. I recently had the dealer install the BMW roof rails and a 520L luggage carrier. My family and immediately went on a 1500 kilometer road trip from the South to North Central Spain. I loved the added space in the car, and the ease of access to the carrier box. There was negligable road noise from the roof box even at increased passing speeds. (I have run-flats now, so there's already that noise. I changed my 2018 320i RFs for NRFs at 30K. Best thing I ever did. I'll do the same for the x1.) I enjoyed being the back seat passenger with the panoramic window sunscreen pulled back, as it added a nice periphery skyview to the overhead, and light to the cabin without the direct sun beating down on you. The 520L is too long for the x1. It has interference with the tailgate when opened. I control the ascent and descent with the tailgate latch to keep from connecting both. Thought about returniing the 520L for the 420L, but decided it's an acceptable trade-off with the added carrier space (plus I got a 10% discount for a minor scratch on the box). The overall height for the vehicle with rails and box is 6'-8". Some parking garages are as low as 6'-10". I stay out of those, but have had no issues parking in most underground garages. Just know the the specific height of your rig. I haven't removed the carrier and rails yet, but will when my current guests return home. Overall I am extremely pleased with the BMW rails and box carrier.

Thanks for your report, Mr Geese. It's especially helpful to know your overall height. I have a very similar Thule box, and it's nice to know there is hope that it's under 7 feet. That is the max of one garage we use for vacationing. I will measure to be sure.
I recently purchased the BMW bars from Amazon for about half the price my dealer wanted. I am experimenting with the exact location they need to be, because they do whistle a little bit empty, in the 460/700mm spacing. But most of the time, especially around town, I don't even remember they're up there because I don't hear them unless I really listen, or at certain speeds. One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is about the built-in torque wrench when attaching to the rails. They say turn until it "clicks" on the screw/handles... But mine never click. However, I can feel the torque wrench style resistance and I know that's when to back off. |

Have OE BMW roof bars on mine. You really have to crank them down to get them to click but eventually they will. Do not notice them up there, even when hauling a longboard or having the roof basket mounted for a road trip.

I am waiting for my new X1 to arrive from Germany and I am trying to choose my roof rails and box. I hate the size of the OEM rails and the fact that they don't come in black. |
