225/50/17 tires???
for oem it's suppoed to be 225/55/17 if i put 17 rims on the car
but i have 225/50/17 from a bmw F32 that could fit the x1 there's a 3% difference in circumference. does anyone know if it will cause problems with xdrive/ABS system? thanks! |

As with all of this types of questions first I'd check if your local laws allow such a variation from OEM tyre OD. For example here in Australia, the variation of -22.5mm would be illegal in some states where the maximum allowed is +/- 15mm with +15mm/-26mm allowed in other states.
I currently run 2% oversized tyres on my X3 (just legal) and after 5 years and 100,000km have had no system problems. However I do note the xdrive system on the X1 is a little different to that on most other BMWs. From the X3 forums I recall one person who attempted to use grossly undersized tyres (from memory around 10% smaller) and had immediate problems with the car's systems. Without being a definitive answer I would suggest given the part-time/FWD bias of the xdrive on the F48 X1 that you should not have any problems. Just be aware because of the smaller OD of the tyre your speedo and odometer will indicate a 3% higher speed/distance than you are actually travelling. Shouldn't be an issue - unlike my situation with my 2% oversize tyres where the speedo reads 2% lower than what I'm doing. Tony |
