2020 X2 M35i updated 0-60 time
Interesting.
Just saw the new model year 2020 X2M35i listed on bmwusa website 0-60 for 4.7 second. Is that just a marketing BS or they flashed the ECU for faster 0-60? FYI 2019 model year is listed at 4.9 for 0-60. Everything should be identical as there are no engine modification nor transmission differences. Note that the new 2020 M135i (Same platform pretty much but lighter car) is still listed at 4.8 for 0-60... Which made me believe that 4.7 stated for 2020 x2M35i is just marketing BS. Thoughts? |

Not sure if it is BS or BMW is trying to be more accurate - C&D got 4.6 and 13.3 with the X2 recently..I always saw the 4.9 to 100km, but never saw a 0-60 until the C&D test, and converting 0-100 is 0 - 62 mpg so I wouldn't think it would account for 3 tenths...not sure what the rationale for the change is.

handling
it feels planted to me. responsive, fast, I am having a blast. I have never tracked a car. drive 1 autocross with a Saab 9-3. I only drove okay when I had a friend telling me when to brake and go. my CA took it out for a spin last week, he knows how to drive and he took a few turns that made me blink. I have had a 335x stick, back in the day a Volvo t5 s70, a few Saabs, Mazda MX6 gt. this is faster and handles as good or better. test one it is addicting

My personal experience is that you can totally feel the AWD grabbing the road. Precise steering for road and canyon runs. Pretty fun to drive id say! When you floor it while turning you can feel the LSD kicks in and giving you that confident with all the traction! Suspension is pretty stiff tho. (I have the 20 inch wheels w/ factory run-flats) FYI Im coming from a 2016 Lexus IS200t f sport package and the difference is noticeable in terms of handling. |

Here's how I put it... the X1 does feel pretty boring. So the X2 has 1) smaller steering wheel 2) a lot more grunt. I can't necessarily say it handles that much better, but the steering feels better. It certainly could be the smaller diameter. My wife's car is the X1 so she has been daily driving it for 3 years now and she definitely says the X2 is a different animal. I only have 2500 miles on mine so far and haven't pushed it to it's limits.. I certainly have been scrubbing a few turns harder and harder if I can and have gotten the tires to scrub/chirp but it still hasn't started to "rotate". I know billnchristy said he read that the car was almost too "sticky". The center of gravity is much higher than my lowered E60 so I am hesitant to push it too fast yet.

I’ve taken turns at ludicrous speed and you can get the rear to step out a little but she is very controllable.

I just came back today from the track at Autobahn in Joliet, IL. I know some people over there. Long story short, I tracked the car like I did my heavily modded STI. I took it easy cause I was scared. Then I gained confidence over and over and over. The X2 M definitely can hold it's own and surprisingly it tracked flawlessly. So there should be no worries on the street. And yes, surprisingly sticky with all-season runflats at 41PSI hot. Mind blown.

Regarding the acceleration figures, I don't think BMW would be BS'ing. If anything, they tend to stay on the conservative side. For example, the car likely makes a little bit more than the 302 hp and 332 lb advertised (in ideal conditions). When I saw the first press releases with the 4.9 sec to 100 km/h (62 mph) spec, I figured the 0 to 60 mph would be about 2 or 3 tenths lower, and that aligns with Car and Driver's 4.6 and BMW's 4.7.

Yeah i agree some numbers are under rated by bmw. But 4.9 is pretty spot on, at least for me when i test in launch mode (I have factory 20in wheels). Also the M135 is only rated at 4.8.... hmm.. I understand there are so many different variables, but i guess ill start telling people that my car does 4.7 0-60 hahah.
still waiting for a X2 M35 or a M135 to run on dyno. |

I haven’t measured officially but have caused headaches for cars that are near that 4.9 so I don’t know. It’s got a hard time off the line but after that she’s a missile. If you could launch without the lurch it’d probably be mid 4s. It pulls like an sob at speed though, it seems stronger than a lot of beefier cars going from 70-100 for instance.
