Does anyone use a lint roller on their convertible roof?

Recently when I was at my local BMW service center I heard someone discussing how they use a lint roller on their convertible roof to give it a cleaner appearance between washes. I have the standard black soft top and can see dust and small objects that landed on it appearing, has anyone here ever tried to use a lint roller and did it improve the overall appearance of the top?

Nope but have the same issues. Big difference between our tops & the Moonlight ones.

I’ve been using a lint roller since I got my first convertible with a cloth top. I have a couple of them.

I agree that the Moonlight tops do a good job camouflaging dust. I will order a lint roller on Amazon and see if there is any improvement in the roof’s appearance. I will do a section first and if there is I will take pictures.

Do you see a major before and after difference after using the lint roller?

Yes they work a treat, sticky roller with tear off sections. Just buy the cheap ones from your nearest dollar store. This is my 4th convertible and have used them successfully. Also have used the Dyson hand held too.

Thanks for reminding me about the Dyson vacuum as I have the V10 model with the handheld attachments. I will definitely try using it while I wait for my order of lint rollers to arrive from Amazon.

I use the powered accessory head. Make sure you haven’t been using it to suck up plaster etc. Check the felt strips before hand though.

I have both that head and the regular brush head and will try both.

By the way, did you have any concerns about the powered accessory head being abrasive on the soft top?

Ok, my wife had a lint roller so I tried it plus the regular Dyson brush and the powered brush head on the roof.

The first picture was just to show the comparison between using the lint roller (right side) and the remainder of the top from middle to left.

The second picture shows using all three. The lint roller is on the right, the motorized brush head is in the middle, and the regular Dyson brush attachment is on the left. Believe it or not the lint roller give me the best results and after using it, the soft top looks blacker in that section.

The pictures are not the greatest because of the lighting but hopefully you can see the comparison.

Yes, I have always used a lint roller. Works great. The top is a lot 'blacker'.

Absolutely! I discovered soon after taking delivery that my moonlight top has a unique rough texture that can snag towels and other materials. To preserve the protective coating, I avoid washing with soap as long as possible, only rinsing with water. In between, a lint roller is my go-to maintenance tool.

Me too; I have managed to avoid washing the top at all yet on my 2020 though I have rinsed it a few times.

I use the large lint roller, requires less passes and might be a bit stickier. Definitely looks better after being rolled.

I don't think anyone was implying that they only used a lint roller. It removes a lot a stuff that washing does not (unless you use a scrubby brush of some kind).

Exactly, last night I looked at it under street lights and it really looked cleaner and blacker than before using the lint roller.

A long time ago someone said to get a horse hair brush for your cloth convertible top, so I bought one on AZ. Works great not too abrasive.
