Thanks for posting. Hard to tell from the pics but looks like a hack to me. My guess is that these are softer than the underlying pillar. BTW, I'm looking to hand my wife's 2014 X1 over to my son and pick up a 2020 for her. Just in case you were wondering why someone with a current generation X1 was weighing in on this thread.

I learned today that NHTSA approval of the fix is still pending, so the start time of repairs is pending that approval.

Does that make sense? several US X1 owners have already had their cars fixed.

Hello, I don’t know what to make of what the rep told me today. Though according to my CA dealership service department, they have received no information or instructions on the repair (procedure, work time needed).

There has to be an approved fix as we have members that already got the recall completed and uploaded pictures of the replacement parts. It's likely the level of information trickling down to the individual service departments are not the same.

I also called my local dealer and they're aware of this recall, but do not have the parts yet. Supposedly, they're going to "expedite" my order and call me when it's in. I'm not holding my breadth that'll happen.

Give it some time and wait for your official letter from BMW. There may be some peace of mind knowing that the danger of the current B pillar design likely only affects passengers in the back seat. If you rarely have rear passengers, it shouldn't be a big deal. If you do have folks in the back seat, make sure they have their seat belt on.

I'm waiting on the B Pillar fix in order to pick up my 19 x1 from the dealer. The rep reported that X1's will be fixed in the order of new cars, CPO and Courtesy, then used on their lot. They are expecting the replacement parts any day now. Their other problem is that 2020 will be shipped soon.

Hi, new to forum. Just bought my 2019 X1 with M-Sport pkg in Estoril blue on Saturday and drove off lot. Dealer said recall fix was completed on mine. I have same pillars as in pix posted earlier here.

just called my dealer (NorCa). This dealer is almost done fixing all the new (2019) cars - new car VINs got prioritized for b-pillar parts. They're then going to move on to used cars (CPO + used).

Recall

I am trying to purchase a CPO 2016 X1, which is currently on the lot at Competition BMW of Smithtown in New York.

While some X1s have been fixed at this dealership, the remedy for the VIN I am trying to purchase has not been made available yet, and so they will not sell me the car.

The dealer is telling me it should come in soon, but they've been saying that for awhile, and no one is able to give me a specific timeline. This is frustrating as I'm not sure if I should move on and find a different car.

Can anyone shed some light on the order of which remedies are made available, timing, etc? Thanks very much!

That’s my dealer I’m sure they don’t have specific answers if they aren’t giving them to you, I’ve had nothing but positive experiences from the dealer, both sales and service.

I'm sure they aren't hiding anything, was just hoping someone here could shed light on how BMW determines the order for fixing the recalls / shed light on the timing of when the part of for this car will be available.

Happy to see that some of you are getting your parts and fixes! Since driving my new 2019 X1 off the lot I am in love with it more than I thought I would be.

Good luck to the rest of you still waiting, I'm sure it shouldn't be much longer.

After recall fix, our ‘16 windows, mirror, and hatch stopped working. Possibly related?

Unlikely, as the fix is to replace a small plastic trim piece in the B pillar, the post between the driver and rear passenger window. As I was told by the dealer, a 5 minute fix.

We had B Pillar recall fix on our ‘16 X1. Then the windows and mirror stopped working. Could these events be related?

Hey,
Sorry if this is an unrelated question. Does anyone know what’s the black rectangle on the b-pillar in this picture. It looks maybe like a side impact but it doesn’t make sense given the location.
Thanks,

Its literally just a piece of plastic/rubber that's stuck on with double sided tape. Thats what the recall fix was...
