8.8 screen upgrade no signal error

Hi all, my first post, I tried to upgrade my display screen from 6.5 to 8.8 but getting no signal , I’ve coded it using BimmerCode ebox and HMI coded correctly, my head unit is entrynav EU model , car is 03/2017 production , the display I used is on: 65506844128
I will appreciate any help. Not sure if I’m using the wrong display for my year model
Thanks in advance

I haven't done this mod yet, but during my searches, seems like the no signal is wrong voltage off the CID.

Check out realoem.com and make sure you got the right part #. Sounds like maybe you got one that isn't compatible with your version.

This board may help troubleshoot - https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1213730

Good luck!

Hi
Welcome to the forum and sorry for bad news

The part that would have been fitted at factory for 8.8”/6UP in your car at build date is 65509387451 (non touch).

If you had. Checked realoem or other part checker you will see that the part was
Superseded by:

65506844128 (07/2017 — 08/2018), nonexchangeable retrospectively
65508797400 (03/01/2018 — (08/2019), Exchangeable retrospectively
65508707407 (07/01/2019 — ), Exchangeable retrospectively
65509387451 Exchangeable retrospectively but latest NON touch version

Sadly the part you bought is nonexchangeable retrospectively and is one of the few Entrnav2 touch screens that will not work with your ENTRYNAV HU (which is why they are usually very cheap on eBay). I recommend 8797400 if you can get one but 8707407 (touch) or 9387451 (touch) would work as well.

Thanks, I’ve seen some on eBay, I will use your guides in what to look for, it helps a lot. This are the models I’m looking at on eBay
65508797400 (03/01/2018 — (08/2019), Exchangeable retrospectively
65508707407 (07/01/2019 — ), Exchangeable retrospectively
65509387451
The 65509387451 is the cheapest but looking at the image on eBay it looks like it was manufactured in 2015

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but MJE60 since you mentioned it here I have just two questions:

1. Can you install and use a touch display in a 2016 X1 that comes with Entrynav without any extra hardware?
2. Is there some special extra coding needed to be done with bimmercode for the touch screen? or, in my case, since I already coded everything for the 9387451 it should be as simple as swapping the two CIDs?

Hi
No extra hardware is required to replace a non-touch 6.5” or 8.8”screen with an 8.8” touch screen in F48 X1. So, you do NOT need to install a touch controller or touch language module in order to retrofit a touch display in an Entrynav HU. This is only essential if you wish to VO code the changes and make them permanent (6UN to 6UP) in Entrynav 2 cars.

However please note, you can only VO code if all hardware for the option is included AND it is correct for car model and build date. This means that for Entrynav HU, you can retrofit a touch screen and even the touch controller & module but you will not be able to VO code because for most build dates (if not all) Entrynav did not have these touch options. You cannot VO code an option and hardware that was never factory fitted. My original retrofit post with coding was for Entrynav 2 cars. The fact that you can retrofit parts and fdl code them to work does not mean you can also VO code the factory option. The only small risk with just fdl coding (Bimmercode, Carly) is that the changes can be overwritten during a service software update but this is rare, BMW rarely update software in X1 unless there is a problem.

Coding for Entrynav is different to Entrynav 2 because screen layouts are different, so it is easier
1. 3000 HMI -> Display_Size_Resolution (here you can change both size and resolution from 6.5 to 8.8 and 800x480 to 1280x480)
2. 3001 EXBOX -> Display_Variante (change from schmal to breites)

There are actually also options you can activate for 10.25” screen in Entrynav 2 cars (have not checked entry Nav).

Extra coding for Entrynav which did not have touch enabled, I believe changes are in advanced mode in HU module and will probably be
3004. ZBE_TOUCH (change from nicht_aktiv to aktiv) - this is touch installation/activation/enabling.
3000. ZBE_TOUCH_INTERACTIVE_MAP. (Change to aktiv - this enables touch in nav screen)
3004. ZBE_TOUCH_SL. (Exact function? leave nichtt aktiv unless u have probs. I think but am not certain that this is speed lock, so stops touch above certain speed, In my factory car for U.K. it was set to nicht_aktiv.
3000. ZBE_TOUCH-SPELLER (only make aktiv if you have retrofitted touch controller otherwise leave nicht_aktiv, it is for touch controller itself.

Please note I had an Entrynav 2 car, not Entrynav so I have never coded the ZBE_Touch.. changes (except speller), so like all coding you do this at your own risk. Finally, loads of people are using my coding info, it would be nice if you hit the appreciate button (like Ivan_K has )

If you are doing the retrofit I think you might as well go for the touch screen. Remember the 9387451 is non-touch.

Is there a certain part # to search for the touch screen version?

I came across one a month or so ago but it was from a 2018 x1 and didn't think it would work for my 2016.

I was going to just get the 8.8 non-touch but since you say the 8.8 touch works without anything extra, i'm on the lookout for the 8.8 touch now.

Appreciate your info!

What is the exact build date of your car? What is your car VIN ?

As I think you already know the easiest way is to check is If you enter your VIN into realoem it will tell you what part number would have been fitted in your car for 8.8, you can then look at the part and see parts which superseded it and which can be retrospectivelly exchangeable.

Yeah, I always check there first. I only see the 8.8 & 6.5 listed (non-touch) which is why I didn't think a touch-version worked for my x1.

Build date 4/16 (US) 4A48760

Thanks!

Hi
Looking at realoem
The part that would have been fitted at factory for 8.8”/6UP in your car at build date is 65509387451 (non touch)...
Checking that the part you can see it was
Superseded by:

65506844128 (07/2017 — 08/2018), nonexchangeable retrospectively <— NOT COMPATIBLE- DO NOT USE

Parts that will fit and work are two 8.8” touch screens.
65508797400 (03/01/2018 — (08/2019), Exchangeable retrospectively - GOOD
65508707407 (07/01/2019 — ), Exchangeable retrospectively - GOOD

Most/many sellers just use the last 7 digits of part number, so I recommend 8797400 if you can get one but 8707407 would work just as well.

Hi, when you say "android car stereo" do you mean the display/tablet that has a touchscreen, or do you mean the MMI box sold from Bimmertech/Andream/Carlinkit/RoadTop?

Hi
Entrynav 2 is not NBT evo, the two systems are not interchangeable. A plug-in after market android android box for NBT evo is unlikely to work/integrate in an Entrynav car. From your description it appears your android box is getting power and working but is not integrating with the car iDrive system. You will probably have to remove the android box and replace with correct model. But first...

... you have not told us the size of the android screen, if it is different and has different resolution to the original, BMW screen then it will not work until you code correct screen size and resolution. This will be the case even if android box is compatible with your car HU. Have you coded new resolution using Bimmercode?

Your original oem screen size was 8.8” with resolution 1280 x480. What is the resolution of the 10.25” screen you fitted? Your car HU will not display on the new android screen unless the resolution is correct. You should have coded correct screen size and resolution using a tool/app like bimmercode.

ok but the android car stereo has a function in factory settings to sumulate the original screen. I set the display to 8.8 and 1280 * 480. but I don't see anything. The vendor also told me to set the resolution and size of the monitor via Android and that there would be no need for any coding. Are you sure that whoever installed Android had to code ???
