Auto wipers

Is there a simple coding change available to change the auto wipers into a manually controlled system. I have always preferred to be able to set the speed of the intermittent wipers and am always annoyed when they suddenly jump to full speed for no apparent reason.

In my X1 they need manually activating by pushing the auto button.. If yours is the same just don't push it for manual use.

According to the UK user handbook, a single flick upwards on the wiper stalk activates the wipers in "normal" mode, i.e. not sensing. The dial on the stalk adjusts the interval.

Copied and pasted from the handbook

Note: The lever returns to the basic position when released.
▷ Normal wiping speed: press upwards once. When the vehicle is at a standstill, the wipers switch to intermittent operation.
▷ Rapid wiping speed: press upwards twice or press once beyond the resistance point. When the vehicle is at a standstill, the wipers switch to normal speed.
▷ Flick-wiping: press downwards once.
▷ Switching off normal wiping speed: press downwards once.
▷ Switching off fast wiping speed: press downwards twice.

Turn the knurled wheel to set the interval time or sensitivity of the rain sensor.
Up: short interval or high sensitivity of the rain sensor.
Down: long interval or low sensitivity of the rain sensor.

I find that in very light rain under 35 - 40 mph and in auto mode, it doesn't matter if I have the dial all the way to + or all the way to - they wont move for at least 45 seconds. If I speed up they will move a little more intermittently.

Is this typical. My 2005 E46 will move intermittently at the speed I set, even on a dry window.

Isn't manual mode the default one? I can activate auto mode only by pressing the side button of the stalk. It has been like this on all BMWs I've driven.

Up 1 is auto, up 2 is Normal, up 3 is fast. No button for auto. MY2021.

Both Correct, either 1up, 2up and Button or 1up, 2up and 3up

Rain Sensor / Intermittent Mode

I assume the Auto mode brings in to play the intermittent function (+/-dial on arm)which is tied into and controlled by the rain sensor.

No rain, no intermittent, no movement..... Is this correct?

In my case a light drizzle is not enough for the rain sensor to detect rain and therefore my wipers don't move at all (auto mode) or move once every minute if your lucky. As noted earlier, doesn't matter if the dial is a + or its at - sensitivity. Moving once per minute is not enough for good visibility. If I turn on manual low, its too fast for the light drizzle.
