To Buy or Not to Buy E93 335 Part 2

Still looking to buy a E93. Came across this one recently. 2007 72k miles. Worst part about is the guy doesn't know anything about the car or the problems that comes with it. But I've been looking for one that's bone stock no work done on it. Said 9k is the lowest he'll go. Trying to meet up with him and see the car in person. Any recommendations whether to buy or wait it out. Thanks in advance!

Take a look at the for sale subforum on this site to get an idea of what these cars are selling for. $9000 seems about right, but without any maintenance history you're taking a chance. It might turn out to be perfect with all the common failure items having already been replaced, or you might be surprised with a huge repair bill a year or two from now (injectors, chargepipe, HPFP, water pump, turbo replacement, etc.).

If I were in the market for a 335, I would personally pass on this one and look for one with documented maintenance history even if it had much higher mileage. But that's just me. If you're really interested in this car, find a local competent BMW mechanic and pay them to do a thorough pre-purchase inspection.

It might be worth taking the car to a BMW dealer and seeing if they can give you any info on the turbo and whether they've already been done under warranty. The turbos at 72K are right where mine were ('09 335 e93) when the wastegate rattle problem started throwing a loss of power code. I was still in the 8yr/84K extended warranty period so BMW replaced them for free, but it would be a bitch to be on the hook for it after you buy it. You can listen for the rattle and usually hear it if it's bad, but even if you don't hear it now, that doesn't tell you anything about what you'll hear in 6mos or 10K miles.

Does he know who put the lip on the front and spoiler on the back? Because if it wasn't him, then I would wonder what other mods may have been done before he got it. Maybe it was tuned, etc.
