Fog light upgrade To LED?
Has anyone have to do this upgrade? I'd like a temperature recommendation to get as close to even as possible.
I've been thinking either 8000K or 8500K. Last edited by SDriver18i; 07-09-2019 at 12:27 PM.. |

You'd want 6000K ... your 8-8.5K would literally be blue going into purple.. not the right match.

Hi Neworgri,
Make sure that they are Canbus compliant. Get someone that knows how to program the ECU via the ODB II connector with a laptop and software. That person will be familiar with the LED option. Make sure that you do not exceed 6300K otherwise you will not match headlights and you risk being non-compliant. I purchased mine at www.bimmian.com and have done this including the rear stop/turn and front amber turns. Don't remember if the reverse were changed but they're also LED. Very happy with this too BTW. |

I just did this using the fog lights from deautokey (http://deautokey.com/product/dual-co...low-at-anytime)
You do have to shave away some of the housing behind the fog lights because they won't fit otherwise. |

I managed to find LED fogs that match the color of my factory LEDs (late 2018 X1) fully optioned X1 and I hired a programmer to code my LEDs front and back (tail brakes and turns) to add convenience features and prevent blinking and clear old factory codes. I also added M logo lights under the doors.

Any recommendation about led fog lights that don't require cutting/shaving the housing behind the lights?
I bought a pair from Alla Lightning (https://www.amazon.com/-/en/dp/B08L7HYHXF), but they don't fit, and I'm not sure about trimming some plastic behind them .

I've been running these Beamtech H8 since Jan 2019.
No shaving or modification required. Plug and play with coding to LEDs. |

What about the light pattern? Sometimes the glare from the LED fog light bulbs is too much. Like it doesn't have a clean cut-off line.

$300-400 max. Waiting for my intercooler then I'll do it. Hopefully within 1-2 month.
Still kinda planning how to do it smoothly and seamlessly. Theory crafting on how to use bumper material/plastics merged with fiberglass for it not to fall apart at high speeds etc etc. Last edited by SDriver18i; 06-02-2022 at 03:49 PM.. |
