God i hope not. Wife's 2018 X1 was totaled and we replaced at the end of May with a 2019.. took possession of the car but haven't been able to finalize sale because of this pending recall. Was hoping it would be available any day now.

They can't actively sell the X1 with this issue right? Seems crazy it could be that long of a wait.

I'm trying to get rid of our X1 through lease assumption (3rd car and we're trying to buy a house) and was told by BMW that the lease was not assumable with this recall in place. By the time there's a fix, we might be already within six months of lease end and not eligible for lease assumption.

They are totally screwing us over, i even had a friend willing to take over the lease and was calling to start the process.

Is there anything legally we can do?

Just saw this thread and thought the same thing... I went onto BMWFS site and now I cannot request a payoff on the lease.. wanted to keep the wife's car, in fact.. that whole plan was part of me buying a new x2 m35i .... soooo now that's a little doozy. Haven't spoken to anyone yet about it, just holding my breath until the last minute to deal with it..

The fix takes 15 mins and BMW is stating that it will be done by August 1st. I just came back from a training and was told of this. I have 2 clients that are in loaner vehicles and 1 with an extended lease.

For those affected, your dealer will try and make deals on X2/X3 models in the meantime. My clients are dead set on the X1 model so they understand and will wait.

I also just spoke with bmwfs and they can sell me the lease end as long as I sign the form acknowledging that I know there is an active recall... So I'm back in business

When can we schedule a service apt to have the recall fixed? Any ETA on a fix?

I interpret this as the fix will be available on August 1st. With slightly over 106,000 vehicles that require repair, it will take BMW Service Centers quite some time to complete all the work.

I had a 2019 X1 ordered and then production stopped. I did score a great deal on an X3 and I guess I can live with it .

Whoops, worded my post incorrectly. You're correct. The fix will be developed and set out to dealers around that time 👍

I bought my X1 used. How do I get on the list for recalls?

It should be automatically sent to you since you registered the car under your name. You can always call in the dealer with your VIN, you can't be denied the recall. Still.. nothing is rolling out yet so I wouldn't really worry about it for a while.

Called customer care and they told me that it is just a small trim piece and they are waiting on parts to fix. I guess it isn’t s big deal.

My dealer just texted me that they expect to receive the trim parts "in August."

When I dropped my car off yesterday for other service the advisor said August is when remedy should be out, but letters and parts will be released slowly because of the large number of affected cars. So might not be until end of year...

So I just received a letter from BMW regarding this recall.

It reads, a vertical trim piece on the inside of the vehicle, between the front and rear doors, may not meet a Federal requirement for an unbelted compliance test. In the event of a crash, this could increase the risk of injury to the rear seat passengers.

It further states, there is no remedy at this time, but will notify with a follow-up letter. The trim piece will be replaced with an improved version and take about an hour to replace.

I guess this will be awhile before replacement part is available.

I wonder how BMW is dealing with new production. The 2020 MY production was scheduled to begin in early July.

I saw the letter is in the mail. Sounds like they have identified how to resolve so that's a good thing. My guess is all stock will go to units stuck on the lots first so they can lift the stop sale.

Reading through what happened it appears a vendor screwed them by saying the parts were complaint in simulated tests but didn't test non-belted people . The issue was found when they were safety testing the LCI one and found the problem. They determined the same piece was used in the original and no changes should have caused the failure in safety. Re-test the car and BAM non-compliant.

Whoops, although I'll take this over metal in airbags ...
