The WORST way to die?

Some may think being torn to shreds by some wild animal like a lion, bear or shark, or maybe being burned alive...but I think being buried alive is quite insane, the claustrophobia, the mind torture and dying slowly either by suffocation or starving.

Is that the worst or can you think of something else?

Rabies or any Prion diseases are kinda bad I guess. By the time you show symptoms of Rabies its usually too late. Prion diseases are the stuff of nightmares.

That's a pretty bad way to go tranquility. Feeling a little warped today? I like it.

I guess a way that would be torturous for me would be drowning.

Holding your breath for as long as you can. Then, not being able to do it any more, you take a deep breath and suck all that water into your lungs. Would be short, but agonizing.

Ya, you know, that guy's post inspired me from that movie thread.

'Fascinating', drowning, I wonder how painful it is or if it's just instant death once the water is too much?

Or being burned to death, like you mentioned in the movie thread. That sounds extremely painful, for however long it lasts. Hopefully not long.

Worst way to die? With regrets. That would be the worst.

Most horrific perhaps going down in a plane crash. Not the crash itself but the moments leading up to that.

Another clip, this one looks pretty painful.

Except that big fish is looking a little rubbery. lol

Still good for back in the day, and completely possible to be killed by a shark.

Some ppl could never hear that song again after it appeared in that clip (I forget which New Order one it was, True Faith?).

I've always been a fan of horror literature, so here's a couple of good ones.

The original dungeon was just conical well dug into the earth some 30 feet deep and only two feet wide. The condemned would be tossed in falling far enough to break whatever landed first but not die, a lid was placed over the well where the condemned was left to die of their injuries in cramped darkness.

Another grim torture device was the Brazen Bull. Here the condemned was locked inside a massive bronze bull where a fire was lit underneath slowly roasting the occupant to death. The device was designed with hollow nostril passages that would channel the screams of the dying person in a manner that sounded like the bellows of a bull.

Legend has it the commissioner of the Brazen Bull was so appalled at the design that he threw it's designer in the device itself to test it's effects.

On a positive side: the incredible survival story of the Australian mountaineer Lincoln Hall (30 years of mountaineering experience) on Mount Everest in May 2006.

How his brain instinctively managed to resist being totally shut down by life-threathening circumstances, remains mind-boggling. It looks like the hard-coded survival instinct of the human brain is way more powerful than we can fathom.

Fascinating documentary featuring actual footage, some re-enactment and interviews with Lincoln Hall, his mountaineering crew and his family. Spoiler: he survived the ordeal. He died in 2012 of mesothelioma.

"Miracle on Everest - The Lincoln Hall Story" (51:00):

Guy tried to steal grounding copper in one of our energized substations about 9 years back.

Let's just say he looked like a burnt potato chip.

I read the YT summary, pretty incredible. Also, did I read correctly that some climbers *ignored* David Sharp and just went on w their climb? They knew he was alive or didn't bother to check properly? I find it a bit shocking even for Lincoln's rescue that the ppl had to rationalize "oh, the mtn will still be there, Lincoln only has 1 life." Really, ppl need to weigh the pros and cons here??

How about those industrial accidents where someone was inside cleaning a huge whatever-it-was machine and an idiotic coworker closed the door on them and it switched on? I can't recall exactly but there were several stories of some crazy, excruciating deaths.

Being burried alive sounds particularly horrible and very slow compared to the others like drowning, burning to death, etc.

Oof. The Byford Dolphin Incident comes to mind.

Speaking of New Order's "True Faith," here's a fun video from American Psycho.

I think about this more than I should. Not necessarily being buried alive, but how do we know you are really dead when you die. Meaning you have no perception or pain, time etc. What if it's like a locked in state... then everyone is technically buried alive or cremated alive.

Honestly most of the "worse" ways to die I think are not as bad as the way many people actually die. Burning, drowning, eaten by shark etc all that is over in seconds or minutes and I would imagine at some point you might just black out. However there's some nasty diseases out there that will kill you slowly over years. I remember seeing a documentary or something a looooong time ago about some kid that was born with no skin or something like that. It was so horrific I still remember it to this day.

And that's a super rare one, but even the "normal" stuff like cancer sucks ass depending on the type.

I'd say this takes the cake https://www.ladbible.com/news/cave-d...68420-20221204

Also that recent earthquake with people trapped for days is pretty bad.

Im more scared of the mind torture than any actual physical pain which the body usually just goes into shock to block it.
