I just installed the HK-amp in favour for the HiFi AMP i had but now the center-channel is waaaaay more pronounced. So much that I was wondering if the the door speakers still worked. But the do, it feels like the center speaker is on 50% volume while the rest of the speakers is on something like 25% volume

Did anyone notice when replacing the HK amp? I didn't code the Headunit yet so that might the culprit but if that doesn't improve the center channel to more normal levels then I will switch back to the HiFi AMP and sell the HK amp. .

Edit: fader was set all the way to the front. Setting it normal levels solved it.

I have installed the additional tweeters in my Hi-Fi system, and I noticed an improvement in the sound overall.
This last weekend I replaced the HiFi amplifier to the Harman one, and I noticed a better definition sound channels and a higher volume in the tweeters. But I'm still using the default speakers.
The harman speakers for the doors have arrived but I haven't done the replacement and comparison yet.

The original Hifi Sound has good quality. But the Retrofit Harman Kardon is a great upgrade for those who like better quality sound!

I will change the VO S676A to S674A as soon as change the door speakers.

Nice! I noticed that the underseat subwoofers had/have more punch with the HK amp.

You installed only the center tweeter then?

Didn’t install door tweeters yet, and I will be skipping the rears. Are you installing the tweeters in the rear aswell? The gitter/mesh for the rears is IMO too expensive.

Yes, I installed all 5 tweeters. Center and in the 4 doors.
On the front doors, the glass finish needs to be replaced.

For the rear doors I took the car to the upholsterer to provide the hole for the tweeters.

You will need the speakers and the cover as well.

At first I thought I would be satisfied just addig the Tweeters, then I decided to change the amplifier and more recently I decided to change the MID HK speakers as well.

Now I have a problem because when coding the VO, removing the 676 and adding the 674 the ECU AMP_HIFI shows no communication. Surely something is not right.

But it is working the sound is great.

Maybe it has something to do with the following note about amplifiers from BMW functional discription. Maybe your previous amp had a connection and the new one doesn’t. Mine didnt give errors without VO coding, currently having HK amp with 676 coding.

Quote:
Note for Service department:
The hi-fi amplifier is encodable and can be programmed. After the hi-fi amplifier is replaced, the new amplifier must be programmed and coded. From September 2010 a bus connection will no longer be installed for the hi-fi amplifier. Replacement parts for the hi-fi amplifier that were bus-compatible until then will also no longer be bus-compatible. The voltage supply can only be checked manually.
Edit: Check if PIN 18 & PIN 19 are connected to K-CAN4

Sorry for double posting but found out that if you calculate a NEW SVT with 674 instead of 676.
AMPH is expected. This means that a new ECU is expected when coding 674.
See screenshot 1. (Ignore missing AAG, this SVT_soll includes 23 compared to SVT_ist without 235)

This is not the case with just HiFi which probably means that it could be that the HiFi Amplifier is NOT on the canbus, where this missing link lies is unknown. Is it due missing cables in the connector to R4 resistor or is it in the amplifier itself...

Attached wire diagrams. I don't know which production year you have but it seems there are 3 different versions of the R4 wire diagrams.
Unsure what the 'minor' differences are but TIS list but looks like
I attached 2017/07+ say if you need other version

Nice, you are welcome.
Next time I am in the trunk will run that wire aswell. Easy to do

BTW: Don't forget now you can communicate with it to set the cartype in coding parameters if the amp is coming from other car

Yes, everything coded and updated to the same i-Level as the vehicle. Thank you,

Edit: NVM, Sourced an cheap HK amplifier from the scrapyard, HK center speakers & HK Center Tweeter.

Looking forward to install these, still trying to source the front door parts, got midtone speakers but not yet tweeters / trim.

Have you guys bothered with the rear doors? I think of skipping these. Both in labour (myself) & costs
I just did rear door panel HK tweeter and drill the hole, my backseat boss said much better

A few weeks ago I found a good offer on the HK sub and I decided to install it too.
I felt an Bass improvement, but it wasn't as noticeable as I expected. The original HiFi subwoofer already has an excellent construction.

I also found a small difference in the connector, but the workaround was quite simple.

Nic work!.

I recently upgraded to aftermarket amp (Match UP7 BMW) that really made the intermediate HK amp unnecessary. It also helped opening up those woofers and no distortion at higher volumes like with the HK amp. Can recommend that, probably that will help with the bass more.

I almost sourced the HK woofers as I didn’t upgrade them but the the scrapyard mailed me back that the vehicle was flooded and had to cancel my order. So still left with the HiFi woofers, but I think I will not bother upgrading to HK ones. Trying to see if I can get the Earthquake SWS-8xi some day instead.

Is the HK enclosure also bigger?

No. Same size in a slightly different outside shape, but fits perfectly in the space under the seats. The speakers are interchangeable between the acustic box.
